After announcing, a few days back, the Nintendo DS Lite
http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/26/nintendo_announces_ds_lite/
Nintendo releases some pics of it.
Their new Nintendo DS Lite skimps on the size and weight by shaving off 1/3rd of the bulk and 20-percent of the weight.

I expected it to look a bit more fancy and attractive.
Is it just me?
Maybe bad quality of the pictures.
It looks like an inexpensive, common gadget.

Watch the new pics of it here:

I am wondering what Nintendo was thinking when they made this. Its smaller and lighter, big woop. Redesigning the DS isn't gonna help it out.

I totaly agree.
Besides, look at it!
Does this look like a modern gadget?
I sure think not...
My opinion is they'll have to do better than that in order to make some progress...

Perhaps the mic in the middle as opposed to the side is better, but other than button placement, no big whoop.

I've found the DS a nifty little device. My kids have been playing with them nearly constantly since Christmas.

I suppose if this sells a few more, then more power to Nintendo.

I bought a DS for my son not thinking there was much to it and my wife and I love it. He rarely gets to play. The WIFI kicks ass.

Yup, I know the story, I had the same exact story...
My brother bought one for his son and turned out he was the one who mostly played it.
He thought he was too old for these (36) but turns out these have no age limit ;)

Yeah, my kids want a couple more so we can all play at the same time. They don't like taking turns playing against me or my wife.

Luckily, mine is just 2 years old, so I have all the time I need in order to play, for now ;)

If you ordered it in "Enamel Navy or "Ice Blue", you'll have to wait until March 11th...

It's WAAAY too soon for Nintendo to be releasing an updated DS... it's barely a year old and is just establishing a solid user-base, and then decides to deliver a big "thanks for buying our initial DS product, now how's about buying a better version of it less than a year later?" by releasing the DS Lite. Bad marketing by the Big N... especially since the DS is dominating over the PSP overseas, weird move.

Nintendo's DS Lite launched in Japan.

The launch of Nintendo's DS Lite in Japan was a ferocious display of the power of the portable. The redesigned handheld generated far larger crowds than the launch of the original, and as expected, units sold out within hours of its morning release.
