What do you guys think? You guys think that this is legit and should we stop using google toolbar?

THE Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has warned that people should not download Google Desktop because it "greatly increases the risk to consumer privacy".
A spokesEFF said that if the toolbar chooses to use it, the new "Search Across Computers" feature stores copies of the user's Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets and other text-based documents on Google's own servers.

The EFF is concerned that it will make their personal data more vulnerable to subpoenas from the government, which has already shown an interest in what Google keeps on his server.

On the EFF’s site here, a spokesperson said that it was shocking that Google expects its users to now trust it with the contents of their personal computers. µ

One more thing that should bring to light that google isn't all that great... they are just as stupid and careless as many other companies.

Anyone remember or use the web site cache tool thingy they released a year or so ago? I don't remember what it was called (obviously) but it allowed people to see other people's cached web pages, which was bad for admin pages, private messages, etc.

Googe is not a saint and you should not trust all their tools and ways of doing things, plain and simple.

that's true. However, it's interesting that everything that google brings seems to make a huge noise. I like google desktop search but I think it needs improvement. I think regardless what google has done, the fact that it has pushed MS to bring more feature into the OS is a nice thing.

Just to clarify, that's the desktop search tool, not the internet explorer toolbar. The IE toolbar is fine.

I wrote about this feature a while ago

I saw it as a very nice feature.
I never imagined they will be so careless!
God, this is so irresponsible of them.
Sometimes I wonder how many companies do that without our knowledge.

Since it comes from TheInquirer.net I'm pretty sure is legit, however like they already said, it's the desktop search tool, not the internet toolbar. Which is a relief, because I couldn't live without my on the fly google search and spell checker.

I must agree.
Nothing, and I repeat, nothing can take me off this on the fly google search option, it is just bliss!
