Wait for G71 or get ATI's best now?

Ok, so I finally got the money for a new high end card. I'm thinking the X1900 XT, but if Nvidia's G71 cards are going to hit the market soon I might wait for them. Anyone knows the estimated launch month of Nvidia's G71 cards. Should I just get ATI's finest now? What do you guys think?

We should be getting our reference board soon. With probably less than a month to launch I would wait and see how the cards pan out againts each other.

Like he Scott said, the G71 should be poking their heads out before to much longer, I'd wait a bit longer just to see what they can do.

rumor has it that the g71 should be out pretty soon. If you can wait, I would suggest you wait for a bit as I tihnk G71 should out-perform x1900, of course it may also means that it will be tad more expensive.

What card do you have now and what is the rest of your system like? I'd agree with everyone else that if the G71 is just around the corner you may want to hold off and see what it brings to the table.

If nothing else it should make X1900s cheaper. :)

Thanks for all your quick replies. Since now I know the G71 cards are coming out so soon I'm definitely going to wait for it. After comparing both ATI's and Nvidia's best I'll make my decision.

Pfffft! I'd hang on to the 850 a bit longer 'til we see what the G71 is like for sure then, I doubt you're having too much trouble playing games right now. :)

i'd agree. I think that x850xt still pack with a lot of power for today's game. Just wait for the G71 to see how much it performs against x1900 before you buy it.

Actually I should ask what kind of monitor and what resolutions you usually game at, I got an old monitor so I mainly game at 1024x768 right now so an X800 is more than enough for me.

If you are gaming at 1600x1200 with AA/AF I can see where you might want to consider it, but how do games run on your rig currently?

I think you should wait for the results, anyway, with your card, I´d wait for the G80 as it must be a dx10 compliant card with new features, as far as I know, it will be released in June-July.
Anyway, G71 is expected to be released in March 9th, so you don´t have to wait a lot
