An upgrade of the motherboard is considered to result in a “new personal computer” to which Microsoft® OEM operating system software cannot be transferred from another computer. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created and the license of new operating system software is required.”

microsoft chnage their License agreement to say that if you change MB
then it's like a whole new computer!!!

microsoft says it must rely on base component inside the computer to be sure it is installed on only one computer....

I know their position for a while has been that an OS license on an OEM (Dell) computer is for that computer only. Basically any change or upgrade that would have the OEM void your warranty like replacing your motherboard is considered changing the computer and you should buy a new copy of the OS.

I personally think it's BS. I think that if I buy an OEM PC I am also purchasing a license for Windows for 1 pc, not just that particular PC. Obviously I am wrong though since MS writes the license agreement and they can write it however they want. ****ty.... I just don't see why the license should be different on an OEM PC vs a retail copy of the OS. It probably has to do with the significantly lower price the OEM pays MS for the OS.

this is the correct thought but microsoft is only to get your money
so why sell license rent the license for a special pc and after you finish rent for a new pc...
