Nintendo is expanding the entertainment capabilities of its best-selling Nintendo DS, making it possible to watch live television and surf the Internet using the dual-screen portable game device.

...

A separate Nintendo DS card is in development that comes with a TV tuner and antenna that will allow gamers to watch digital TV broadcasts. U.S. release plans for this product have not been announced.

Not much reason yet in the U.S. for the TV tuner, since we don't have that much in digital broadcasts. But still, this just shows what they're planning to do with the device.

Ok, I admit it: I'm becoming a Nintendo Fanboy! So rather than create another separate post, I'll just add this one here.

Here's another article (http://www.igniq.com/2006/02/nintendo-might-have-another-ds-in.html) on the DS. Seems there's a future version in the works.

The original works just fine for me, so I won't be upgrading anytime soon. But it looks like the DS and all it's flavors will be around for a while.

Yea, DS seems to be both a financial success and a gameplay success.

Finally, some nice games are entering the market and now they seem to give it some new functionality too. Yes, it seems this device will be around for a good while yet!

btw, just think about how long the original black and white Gameboy lasted: released 1989 with the Tetris and still going strong in 1999 with Pokemon games. It even played many of those Gameboy Color games, albeit without colors... It was really killed only a while after the release of GBA in 2001. :)
