Well, here's the card we've been waiting for and wondering about! Will it be as popular as the 6600GT?

Compare the 7900GT to the 7600GT listed by Frank. The core frequency has been bumped up nicely to offset the other specs. Right now I can only assume the performance will be as good as the 6600GT compared to the 6800. We'll see if nVidia has another winner with this card.

I think it will be a very good card, it will be the card to HAVE for the usual user like me, it is very good to see a real 12pipe card in mainstream. I think it will have the performance of the x800GTO but with the new features, I think it will rock like the 6600GT in its time

I am not so sure as it only has 128-bit memory interface. 6800 has 256bit memory interface.

As Putale have said I donīt know for sure that the 7600 will be better than the 6800ultra but who knows?
Iīm nearly sure that 7600 will be better than a vanilla 6800 but we have to wait for some benchies :wink:

I think nVidia's 7900GT will be playing second fiddle to the X1900XL (48 shader Units) which will probably be clocked at 525 or 550MHz.

On the other hand I think the 7600GT will be faster then ATi's x1600XT but slower then ATi's x1800GTO.

That's so confusing. Now, that 256-bit interface, is that similar to an amd 64 vs. a regular athalon? Does that just help with FLOPS?

According to liqnit's post on the 7800 GS (http://www.bjorn3d.com/theforum/viewtopic.php?t=61757) the 7800 GS is on par with the 6800 Ultra, more or less.

I'd suspect the 7600GT would be close, less than more.

I donīt know if itīs like in processors (my opinion is that is not) but the memory interface makes the bandwith of the memory if you have more, you have more bandwith to send textures (for example), but the 128bitvs256bit is not the only thing, the clock speed of the memory is important too, for example:
If you read this page:

you can see that vanilla X800 has 256bit 350Mhz memory and has 22.4GB/s of max data tranfer between memory and core, but if you read below, the x1600xt has 128bit 700Mhz memory with result of 22.4GB/s of max data tranfer so, you have the same result. So the real important thing is the data input/output of the memory, that is to say, the only thing important is not the memory interface, itīs the combination of the interface and clock speed.

The memory is most used in high resolutions and when you use Antialiasing and anisotrophic filtering.
