Vista needs the monitor to support HDCP - support needed for high-resolution playback of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs on your PC.

HDCP stands for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection - the data is protected all the way from the pc to the screen and cannot be copied in normal ways.
if your monitor deos not support HDCP then you can only use the analog out from the card.

most of the monitor today are not HDCP capable

it's not only microsoft balme - the problem is with the content providers ie movies studio that will not let it be copied in easier means like analog content.
but still i don't understand how this can stop the copy of Original media BD\HD-DVD
the encryption is only on the brodcasting side if you copy the media itself it will be completely identical to source...
an we all know what fiasco came with sony and the orootkit they implemnted to protect cd.
so cd copyright is still somthing to be seen
