If you plan on running MS Vista, get your check book out and get ready to buy some more ram if this is true.
"A CHAP who managed to sneak a peek at the Vole's internal beta version 2 of Windows 53xx informed us that, even while idling, Vista eats as much as 800Mb of system memory. "

it is completely crazy even at teh memory price right now 2 GB of good memory will still cost a lot.
and with that you only have 1.2GB free at max.
i wish they would let the process tab showing so we can see the memory divided into separate processs

let's hope that MS can fine tune these demands and allow more reasonable requirment when the final product is shipped.

vista is really resource demanding. The need for hgih end graphic cards with enough memoyr. Even single core high speed cpu probably is not fast enough and maybe not even low end dual core. I am not sure what exactly is MS's plan, they really should take some lesson from Mac, design a good stable OS, with all the nice eyecandies and performance, yet not as hardware demanding.

MAC hardware is preconfigured so the Apple engnees can max out the hardware options without tyhe need to worry about buggy drivers and incompatiable hardware.
theire work is easier.
not that i think microsoft is perfect but mac is a diffrent story
