View Full Version : Satellites Will See More, Faster
As the next generation of commercial imaging satellites draws closer, government agencies who claim imagery services show too much may be really worried...
Next generation imaging satellites will support:
- Enhanced zoom capabilities.
- Higher-resolution views.
- Faster updates of stock imagery.
This will enable imagery services a far more detailed visual of earth's surface than anything visible on a computer screen today...
Is that good for us or bad?
What do you think?
A really interesting read over here (http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,70267-0.html?tw=wn_index_1)

I'm really not sure if it's good or bad, but I do know that I check on Google for my house on satellite, and I could see it plain as day.
I can understand how the military would be worried, even the bad guys would know what you are up to and where you're going.................
That's really scary on one hand, so much info accessible so easily.
On the other hand, this can give you so much benefits and help in so many ways.
Really hard to see into the future, but it is really interesting to see where this goes to...

If they put some sort of time delay on the ones over important military/government sites and such, then I really don't see much of a real problem with the high quality sat pics.
The ones that our military uses are totally separate from the comerical ones anyway............... You wouldn't believe the quality of the images that come out of some of those...........

What the "public" will be allowed to see is much less advanced then what the government/military/black ops have availble to them. The ability to read a license plate number from space is nothing new, so giving the public that ability just means they have something way way better by now, probally can see underground, through objects (IR images ect...) and even determine the composition of an object from space!
Nothing they do not want us to see will be seen by us, they have tight enough controls on the satalites to ensure that any sensitive areas are protechted. On Google Earth, the Pentagon is "pixilated" on pourpose to obscure detail that would threaten it, the same will be continued. Also, the government has "Real-time" imageing ability, we will just get snapshots updated every few months.
