Yeah and it is darn slow. I have done it with my Transcend drive just for the fun of it. My RAID 5 kick the tar out of it.

Here's a good one for making a boot thumb drive.

"
How to boot from a USB device ...

USB - Universal Serial Bus - is a standard for connecting additional equipment to your computer, like printers, scanners, webcam's, digital camera's, keyboards, mouse, harddisks, etc. For more details, please read this article. One of these devices is the Thumbdrive, keychange disk, USB pen, etc however you want to call them. We'd like to use one of those to boot our PC from. "

There's several Linux dists also that you can boot from USB.

Scott, I think the idea is not to run Windows every day from a USB stick. It's a great tool if you have issues with your computer and want to boot from a working windows-installation to recover stuff or try to repair.

you can also use a live CD instead of USB .
and i agree with SwedBear it is better to use a linux small distro like DSL to boot from.
it will be much faster

yeah, it will be a nice tool to have in case you ever need to boot the system when windows is not booting at all (it happened to me). Having xp is a tad better because of familiar interface/look and usage.

I have a external USB HD that has all my back-up info on it plus a boot drive just in case sort of thing. Lots and lots of utilities as well, like almost all of Barts..........

Like SAMSAMHA said, I suppose this would be useful if you ever needed to boot up your system when all else fails, at least you could get into the O/S and try and troubleshoot from there.... but man, it's gotta be a ssssllllloooooowwww boot...

It's not really all that bad using a HD, I use mine fairly often when working on friends systems, a few times a month anyway........ 8)

usb HD is not as bad as the flash baed memory stick. I think this is a good way to troubleshoot problems and it would be nice for those people who are constantly fixing other people's computer:)
