XP Media Center is basically WinXP with some added features in the Media Center interface. The problem with Media Center is that you can't buy a regular retail version of it, it's an OEM only product so if you buy it from on online vendor you'll have to buy some qualifying hardware with it. If there's not a significant price premium I'd go with Media Center. After that I'd go with XP Pro, and Home after that. Most people don't need the extra features in XP Pro but I'd rather be safe an have them than buy XP Home and have to buy another OS because I needed something that's only in XP Pro.

Pro if you're a regular computer user and can afford it and XP media Center if you're main interest is more HTPC type of things...........

depend on how much you are willing to spend. For almost everyone, Home edition is more than enough. it has all the basic needs. Pro has more security features and more network ability than home. As for the media center, as far as i know, it's just home edition with home entertainment feature added to it, such as TV tuner program, pretty interface. Other than that, there's not much diff in the core.

If i were you. i would chose xp pro..it is good at gaming and more control of your computer, If you install some media drivers and stuff then it is really good at media to.

It depends on you what you need, i use Home Edition and it does great job and has enough features for me. I'm not regular computer user, but not expert either. But if you think you will need extra features which Pro has, get Pro instead of Home Edition.

No reason not to get Pro unless the price is too high unless you can get it for free. Home should do you fine.

You could always get the OEM version of either Windows like I did and save some large cash.............

You should get Win XP Home. I have it 4 like 4 years  AND I never missed any of XP pro features or options AND I do a lot of things on my computer including gaming.

Get the home edition.
You don't really need the pro or whatever with what you are going to do.
I beleive pro only has more administrator options and such...

OEM means only the cd without the box.

XP home is all 99% of home users ever really need, you'll save about half by getting Home over Pro. .............

You won't get better performance playing games on Media or Pro Edition. OEM Home is your best bet.
