Apple Announces Official Support for Installing Windows XP
"Intel-Macs owners now have an official second OS option
Ever since the release of Apple's Intel-based Macs, the user community has been attempting to find ways to install Windows XP on their Macs. Because of issues regarding how Apple has designed its new computers, initial attempts at installing Windows XP were met with frustration. While a method has now be devised to install Windows, must users are staying away do to the complexity of the method and the risks involved. Lack of proper drivers are also a factor."

Here's The Tech Reports take on the Windows on a Mac deal along with a bit more info...........
Apple releases Windows XP dual-boot solution
"Following the onmac.net project's early attempts at getting Windows XP to boot on Intel Macs, Apple has announced Boot Camp, its own fully supported solution to the problem. Booting Windows on Intel Macs isn't entirely straightforward, as the machines use Intel's Extensible Firmware Interface instead of a BIOS, which Windows XP doesn't support. The onmac.net project successfully booted the OS on several Intel Macs, but there were still lingering problems, including a lack of drivers and missing functionality."

Mac fans sign up for Boot Camp
"Perhaps hell has frozen over.
That could explain the Macintosh community's surprisingly upbeat reaction to Apple Computer's announcement of software enabling the running of Windows on Macs.
Normally, of course, Mac addicts are as likely to sneer at anything having to do with Microsoft's operating system as they are to breathe. "

It seems that Boot Camp will allow more than just Windows on Intel Macs........
"Boot Camp loads Vista, Linux installers
by Cyril Kowaliski - 01:55 am, April 7, 2006
Apple's recently released Boot Camp, which allows Windows XP to be installed on Intel-powered Macs, has already been put to the test with other x86 operating systems. Intel-based Macs were previously unable to load these OSes, as the machines use Intel's Extensible Firmware Interface instead of a BIOS like current PCs. However, Engadget reports that ZDNet's Marc Orchant was able to load the Windows Vista installer on a MacBook Pro, and that another user managed to start the Ubuntu Linux 5.10 installer. While neither actually decided to go through with the installation, one user has managed to install Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 on his MacBook Pro, despite it not figuring in Apple's list of supported Windows versions. This certainly bodes well for Boot Camp, considering it's still at the beta stage. The fact that the Vista installer loads is also good news, as Microsoft stated last month that Windows Vista wouldn't work on its own with current Intel-based Macs."

This pisses me off. Not that I'm a fan of Microsoft, but Apple will do anything to keep selling their hardware at inflated prices. Now that Intel forms the guts of an Apple PC, what's unique about it? The design and the OS. They should let me bring my OS and buy their hardware at a reasonable price, although I would be willing to pay a reasonable premium for their design ability. I also want to run OSX on my own hardware. But I guess they wouldn't be so rock-solid if they had to support all hardware and not just a closed box.
What really pissed me off was some Apple spokesnerd saying that XP users could now benefit from Apple's "superior hardware". What does the Apple have inside that I can't replicate on my own? And I would not call Intel's dual-core solution better than AMD's!

Yet another artcle about Windows on a Mac............
Macs do Windows with no streaks, tests show
"Despite Apple Computer's historic disdain for Microsoft's Windows operating system, Apple's Boot Camp software lets Windows applications run just as well on a Mac as they do on a PC, performance tests confirm.
According to tests carried out by CNET product reviewers, a MacBook Pro and iMac running Intel's Core Duo processor and Windows XP delivers equal performance to similarly configured PCs designed to run Windows. On Wednesday, Apple released a beta version of Boot Camp, an application that lets Mac users run the Windows XP operating system on their Macs."

Well, no ****. It's just a duel boot option after all. It should run the same because there's nothing differentiating the hardware other than a pretty case.
