To be 100% honest, both cards play most games fairly well.......... 8) Although with the 9800Pro I have to play most games at standard settings anymore, even then I still get some artifacting, but I can turn them up alot with the X800XL and all is fine.............. :D I guess it's time I dig up the stock bios for the pro and flash it back to stock to see if that helps out a little.............

I got a score of 9037 with the XFX 7900gt 520mhz version.
Now lets say if I could overclock to the XXX XFX 7900gt 560mhz version level, which I havent so I wont void my warranty, but you could expect to see around a score of 9700....at least what I have seen anyway.
Plus it all depends on the other parts in your rig too....

I don't think I can score reach 10,000, at least not with my current stock cooler. Maybe later on I'll consider replacing it by aftermarket cooler, but for the meantime I'm pretty satisifed with my current results/performance, so I guess I'll stay with my stock cooler.
I bet you gonna Water-Cool your 7900GT when you get it, and then, you should easily get beyond 10,000. So....GOOD LUCK :D ...and don't forget to update us when the card arrives...;)

10k on a 7800GTX is a bit far fetched unless you use watercooling. You need to at least OC to 500MHz core and 1700MHz memory with a dualcore cpu OC'd to 2.7GHz to get to 10k.
Simple way is to just use the "Print Scrn" button and "Paint".

Nice :) . It seems like the 7900GT and the 7800GTX perform pretty much the same (altough the 7900GT is a bit better... ), since I got around 8400 in 3DMark05 with my 7800GTX (430/1200@470/1300) ;) .
I bet you'll easily reach above 9000 when overclocking it (watercooled, of course ;) ) and hopefully get it to make 10,000 Pts (altough I'm not sure you can do it with your current CPU, but it probably possible to do it if you had a X2 3800, or better...).
Anyway, good luck and keep us updated. :D

05-11-2006, 04:23 AM
I'm not at all used to the noise of the small cooling fans usd on video cards any more. It's been years since the last time I had one in any of my systems. The cooler on the 7900GT is the loudest thing in my computer, the wife even asked me what was making that loud noise and she sit's on the other side of the office. It's not really all that loud, but when you're used to a almost silent water cooled system, those extra fan noises really do stand out.

This is he way the system looks right now, the GPU water block is just hanging there.

Not really all the high, 545/1500. But it's not bad really for a bottom teir 7900GT. I've also found out that there's 2 different versions of the Samsung 1.4 ram used on the cards, a 1.8v and a 2.0v, the 1.8 are the same dies as the Samsung 1.2 ram and run much higher clocks. The 2.0v are only made to a max of 1.4 and don't OC near as well. I have a feeling that the lower end cards are starting to use the slower ram, I need to pull a heatsink and check this out a bit more.

This would make sense if your card didn't have the 1.2 chips as it is like you said that the lower end cards use the slower chips.

lol true, but unfortuanetly that would mean a new MoBo so i might as well build a new system which im planning on doing.
EDIT: and werty BTW thats completely true the x1900xtx is way better than the 7900gtx as the physics features in that card are much better

Yeah but that keyboard is damn expensive; a regular keyboard is good enough for me ;). The MX518 is good but the G5 is better. You chould spend a couple grand to get a sweet rig like that :D

But doesn't the G5 and MX518 uses a similar is not the same design so how would it feel different? Maybe it was because the G5 uses weights.

I have no idea why but the g5 doesnt contour to my hand right, the mx518 is perfectly fit into my hand, i just simply game better with the mx518, maybe it is the weights in the g5, i dont know, but plainly i just use the mx518 better in gaming than the g5.

4800+ X2 is about $200CAD more than a 4400+ X2 so it ain't even close in price. 4400+ X2 is 2.2GHz and 2800+ X2 is 2.4GHz. With a 4400+ X2 expect an OC at around 2.6GHz and higher; max is probably 2.8GHz but hwo knows if it can get as high as 2.9GHz.

nono all the difefrence is 200mhz, the architecture is basically the same and the performance are similar, its like comparing a 4000+ with an fx-53, the fx-53 is $200 more expensive than a 4000+ except 200mhz faster and with an unlocked multiplier, its just a reworked 4000+, just like the 4400 and 4800, i even believe the architecture IS the same between the 4400 and 4800, they dont even come with different cores

sbrehm will I wont admit to a "reversable" volt mod, the 1.4v is so so so easy that anyone on this forum could do it. The easiest one, using a conductive circuitwriter pen, is here:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=176625
You can do a reversable up to 1.55v. After that, you have to physically change the card itself.
