I'm running at 1600x1200 and that gives me huge gray panels on both sides of the forum. It's visually unappealing. phpBB used the full width. Come to think of it, I think the whole site used to use the full browser width. Why constrict it???

We've choosen to optimize the site to look the best at 1024 and 1280x768, the resolutions the vast majority of users use.

It's always hard to make articles etc. look good regardless the width and in the end I decided to create a fixed-width layout this time.

Next step I am looking at now that the first css-layout has been released is to also offer a sliughtly wider verion of the site which should look a bit better at 1600x1200. The problem is to see that everything still looks good in a streched layout as in a fixed.

But for now you will have to live with the fixed width. I also use 1600x2100 on my main monitor and while I see the grey areas around the layout I'm not bethered by it.

Bjorn, can we have a style switcher button (alternate stylesheet)? That way users can choose how they want the layout formatted or will that bork other sections of the site? For forums I think we can make a theme that will use full width no?

That's the thing I am thinking aobut. I wanted to concentrate on this stylesheet and then in the next step look at offfering a bit wider one too. Kind of what sites like Anandtech does. it won't be a full 160x1200 width but more suitable for 1280x1024.

But that's the next thing I will work on after taking care of all the bugs/stuff that needs to be taken care off.

There are themes that will allow VBulletin to have many different looks and varying liquid (full screen) or standard (what we have now) dependant on user selections while still keeping a central theme for the readers that are not members. They cost in the neighborhood of $30 for a one year license. Each theme package will give you up from 2-6 different looks at the above widths.

Putale: yeah, that's what I was talking about. It's a switch between 2 css's/widths.

Paragon: The forum still needs to be confined within the boundries of the site-design (ads, menu etc) so unfortuantely it means that even if the actual forum is liquid it will only be liquid inside the actual design. But with 2 separate css's with different widths it should work pretty well anyway.

Maybe in the next few weeks I will ahve taken a look at that.
