Well time for a new contest and new prizes.

For our USA and Canada winner the prize will be a XFX 7900GT. For out European winner the prize will be a PowerColor X800GTO.

All you have to do to have a chance to win is post 125 quality post in the forum in the month of April. This mean any one liners will not count. You must also let us know what country you live in when your register for the forum so when new which card your are looking to win.

Good luck to all.

Scott

Contests are certainly a great way to attract attention, should be obvious enough I'm an example of that! Also is what got me over onto Driverhaven as well, but a person can only live on his computer for 24 hours a day, so that was my limit to forum posting contests!

Belated Good Luck wish to everyone here... now those winners had better put those cards to some good use!

The good thing so far is all the winners except last month guy from Europe have joined the site and stayed. That is the type of people I am hoping we bring to Bjorn3D. I would like to see that active forum member # go from where it is now to a couple of hundred.

I myself when I have time love to talk to people in forums and hated it when I had to go to other sites to talk because we had no one partaking here. I do not think we have done that bad for only doing the contest for 5 months.

I think Bjorn3D's birthday month contest will bring some folks in and be a real challenge. Remeber I said something on the front page about practicing the forum games? Better get busy.

Guys.

He really has been adding to the site alot for the last several months and really there is no one close to the number of post he has done. It was a was really up to a coin toss last month but I could not do that again to my March winner. He had that happen to him in Feb.

So if you go and look back you can now see that the really active members on the forums for the since the contest started that made the 100 post min all have won.

This is a good thing to me so the wealth has been spread around to all of you. And like I said the other day all the winners except last month winner in Europe has stuck around. Now what do I have up my sleave for May.

I have not decided on all the rules yet but here is my thinking and give me your thoughts.

Bjorn3D 10 Birthday Party

Must post 25 post min. XFX is now sponsoring USA, Canada and Europe.

Has all month to get the best scores in all the forum games. Ahh the Olympics Part!!!

XFX and Bjorn 3D will have a GOLD Medal Winner, Silver Medal Winner and Bronze Medal winner.

What do you think?

Scott Sherman
04-25-2006, 11:17 AM
I am doing the 25 post min to try to get more people around the world to give it a try. I think the high post count scare some off. For the birthday I do not want to do that.

First, CONGRATULATIONS Bjorn3D !!! :D

I think it's great, Scott!

zachig
04-25-2006, 11:25 AM
It's good to know that we'll have a VERY BIG contest for May.

I personally think that it is really unfair to give ALL three prizes only to the people who will get to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the forum games, since not all of us have "a lot of time" to "spend" on the games, and believe me it takes A LOT OF TIME to try and break the records.

Beside that, not everyone has good "gaming" skills (like me), so to be honest, I've already given up on trying to break new records...

Also, in some games you can "easily" reach 100,000 Pts while on other you can "hardly" reach 100 Pts. So I don't think it is fair, if I'm very good at "Simon" and won the 1st place, but I really suck at "Breakout"...

It also seems that most people will be interested now in playing the games in order to break records, instead of posting in the forums, so I guess that the forums might be almost empty, during the forum games contest...

So...in my opinion, you should think of something else for May Contest, since it'll make a lot of people to give up on the prizes, before the contest even started.

At the end, it's UP TO YOU to decide how the May Contest will be held and what will be the rules for it.

I can only tell you how I personally feel...:(

EDIT:
I have a suggestion...Since it's Bjorn3D Birthday Contest :D afterall, you can just RANDOMALLY select 3 winners out of all the people who will play the forum games during the contest period.
I just think that it might scare some people off and some of us (including me...) might give up on the prizes before the contest even started, and most people will agree with me that the contest should be FUN afterall and not an "endless race" to try and get the maximum points available in order to win a prize...

Hope you'll take this into consideration when you decide on the contest rules.

Thanks in advance, ;)
zachig.

liqnit
04-25-2006, 11:49 AM
First of all i think making a birthday contest is a great idea
I agree with Zachig in general about people just gaming instead of posting is not what should be for this forum
after all games is not the main thing around here :)
i think the prizes should be divided among the top players and most intresting posters.

and one that won best game cannot win in the posts contest or somthing similar.

also there can be a poll for best poster among the people of this forum

ofcourse you make the contest rules but please take that into considiration.

pym
04-25-2006, 12:04 PM
I am sorry, zachig, I must say I think totaly different than you...
In global, I agree the contest should not be around games only.
I agree with liqnit, prizes should be divided among the top players and most intresting posters.
But the games part must have the medals and all, I think it's a great idea...

Here is what I think about some things you said

...since not all of us have "a lot of time" to "spend" on the games, and believe me it takes A LOT OF TIME to try and break the records.

How long do you think it takes to post 125 quality posts?
I know it takes much longer then the games, I invest a few hours on every Preview / Article I write...

...not everyone has good "gaming" skills (like me), so to be honest, I've already given up on trying to break new records...

Not everyone can express themselves in posts and think of creative ways to conribute to the forums as well.
Still, I never heard anyone complain about that...

It also seems that most people will be interested now in playing the games in order to break records, instead of posting in the forums, so I guess that the forums might be almost empty, during the forum games contest...

I disagree, it will only attract people to the forums and create a healthy competition as well between the members, which will result in more threads and conversations...

...RANDOMALLY select 3 winners out of all the people who will play the forum games during the contest period.

If this will happen, it won't really be Bjorn3D's Olympic Games anymore, will it?

...and I'm sure that the contest should be FUN afterall and not an "endless race" to try and get the maximum points available in order to win a prize...

Hasn't it been an "endless race" of posts until now?

Think about it... ;)

Just a thought here, how about having say a grand prize for the member that boes both based on helpful posts and games, posts to be on decided by staff. Then have a First place for the best gamer and then a first place for the most helpful poster, also to be decided on by the staff.

werty316
04-25-2006, 05:30 PM
How about whoever has the most points from all the games, first place in the games or not? I mean some games you can get really high scores and some require a lower score to get first place; who ever has first place in most of the games is gonna win.

EDIT:

Now, I would have easily broken 125 posts before the end of the month, and I was certainly trying to not do simple one-liners... But I couldn't agree more about Sbrehm getting it as he always seems to have two posts to my every one since I have joined these forums!

As for my thoughts on the next contest... I'm happy to hear there will be more than one winner! Spreading things out a bit is nicer for everyone that wants a shot at winning, by evening their odds a little.

As for how to go about designing the contest, games vs posts vs post quality... I can see it going either way, so I think I'll just stay out of that one!

Congrats Sbrem! It was pretty obvious that you were going to win right from the get go.

I have never posted over 100 posts in any one month on any forum and I did achieve a personal best here with some great interchange with other members of the forum.

While I dont agree with you on a few issues, I think its healthy to have differences of opinion. As long as I can continue to express my beliefs, I stay on this forum. I originally found this forum because I had a problem with my XFX vid card, got great service from XFX support (with the help of Bjorn3d) and have been able to express opinions on other issues that I have had as well. As long as I can continue to do so without getting slammed too often, I plan to stay.

I would be very interested to see your 3dmark05/06 scores and see if these XFX 7900gts perform better than the competition which my card seems to achieve. While I may get another 7900gt later for SLI, I dont see the need for one right now because I can turn up all of advanced video features in any of the games that Im playing and I have no frame rate problems as far as I can see.

Again congrats!

Heck if I know what I mean half the time....actually I have been reading reviews on other 7900gts and the scores Im getting on my xfx 7900gt card have greatly outpaced other brands. Just wanted to see if it were my card only or not. Why, well I have that issue with fan noise. XFX Support thinks its my fan is malfunctioning but I dont want to give it up because of the performance of this card that I have.

Unless of course I start seeing reviews of other XFX 7900gts that get the same scores or higher. I was told by XFX that if I send it in, I wont get the same card back cause they send it back to HQ. So I get stuck with a different card. Hope this all makes sense...yes, competition between vendors, not other types of cards.

I was pretty surprized as to how small the card really is with all the last generation cards being so big. The 7900GT is just about the same exact size as my old X800XL...................:)

I'm going to install it with stock cooling at first to get a baseline for performance and operating temps, then the water cooling will come into action.

I've also got a set of Swiftech MC14 BGA video ram sinks to install on the card along with the water cooling. That should also help things out a little.

Yeah my liking has turned a bitmore to eVGA since you can't void your warranty if you OC but then again how will a manufacturer know if you OC'd; its not like they will test everything that they get from an RMA. How about some pics of it with some WC'ing action sbrehm?

Kougar
05-10-2006, 12:47 AM

I can't profess to know for sure, but I believe they have some diagnostics they can perform. It's more a matter of costs though, as if the card still marginally worked it would be pretty easy to plug it into a machine and have the card itself report that it was run outside of it's specs. If it was dead they'd have to remove the rom store physically and plug that in to find out. At least that'd be one method I'd use... it'd still be cheaper than sending that same customer a new replacement card.

And there are the obligatory to mention ethical issues involved, which is why I say if you overclock against the warranty, it's yer own fault if it breaks. That was why I bought a card with Overdrive. It OCs without voiding the warranty. I tested the card anyway with ATI Tool after a year, and I found that exact same clock Overdive used was the highest limit without artifacts this card could support anyway.

werty316
05-10-2006, 12:54 AM
More times when you send a product for RMA they usually just test it to the companies standards and if it pases they send it to get repaired. Not sure if this is true for all manufacturers some if not all HD manufacturers send you a "Refurbished"/"Recertified" product like WD does.

Overdrive only OCs the GPU and not memory I think. That would still void the warranty unless otherwise specified by the manufactuer. How exactly would it not void a warranty if used?

Kougar
05-10-2006, 01:18 AM
Overdrive was the selling point of the 9600XT in my sig. At least for PowerColor models, you get a maximum overclock just with a click of the mouse and they explicitly stated Overdrive overclocking doesn't void the warranty. Powercolor had already OCed the memory up to it's limit beyond reference parts, I tested that as well but found zero headroom.

As for the Refurbished/Recertified drives... I'm stuck using one right now and it appears it will only last as long as the drive it replaced during an RMA. Sending out replacement products that are known to be faulty in some way is a cheap alternative for honoring a warranty, instead of testing the hardware and refusing to honor the warranty for whatever reason. ;)

werty316
05-10-2006, 02:59 AM
I know how you feel. I had to RMA a 120GB WD twice and both times it was a "Recertified" HD. This way it saves a company $ by fixing faulty products and re-using them.
