View Full Version : Windows 2000 Korean edition?
I have a friend who's Korean and she wishes to re-install Windows 2000. However, the original Win2K CD that came with her system is so scratched up that there's no way we can install off it. I was wondering if it's possible to install the US (English) version of Win2K then change the language to Korean? That way all menus, titles, names, everything will be in the Korean language. Is this possible to do? Or must we install a Korean edition of Windows 2000 to accomplish this? Does WinXP work the same way? (As in installing the US version, then later reconfiguring the language to Korean.)
I've never installed anything other than English versions of Win2K and WinXP. Nor have I changed the languages after an install...so I don't even know if it's possible.
Surely, with all the brainpower in this forum, someone knows the answer. :)

If my memory serves me correctly, you should be able to do that and simply download the language pack to update it. I did some reasearch after my initial post, check out this thread (http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&Programs/AsianStudiesDept/Language/asianlanguageinstallation_2000.html).
Wow! That was a fast reply. Thanks! I'll try that out with my US edition of Win2K and we'll see what happens. I'll do it in approximately 2 weeks or so. I'll let you guys know.
Thanks again.

YES, you can actually install the language pack, but it won't make the whole interface look like korean, rather it will just help you display korean characters, as well as display some information in korean(like date and time, etc if you set the region as korean).
there are so call "multilangual user interface pack" , it wil make most of the windows interface in the language that you wanted. but I am not sure if you need to buy it.
Try this first. Get her original CD and use a CD burning program to create a image of the CD (use slower speed when ripping it). Then burn that image and see if that would work. Sometimes when you burn the image, it will correct the scratches and then you would get a backup copy of the original CD.
If that dien't work, just install the language pack will allows her to read Korean./
Paragon thank you so much! I will let you know how it goes in about 2 weeks or so.
PUTALE, I did obtain her orginal CD and I did exactly what you mentioned. I got zip out of it. It's really scratched badly. Sometimes my CDROM drive would reject it.
Let's hope the language pack does the trick.

You could give this a try, it's worth a shot.
