This is rather an interesting article. Apparently, the author claims that MS won't ship another OS after Vista and even if MS does, it won't till 2015. The author claims that the factors contribute to this facts includes that Vista is way too big of a software, also the change in the OS (ie google's OS), as well as the fact that MS lost some of their people to google.

I found that the article is quite simply amusing. It may have some truth to it, such as that MS takes quite a long time producing an OS, as well as the possibility of google's OS, which may change the way we see computer. Still, I think that even if google have their os, I don't think MS will be gone so fast. I think MS is a huge company it will basically have ways to keep up with whatever teh changes in the industry. I think that we can see that MS is never a trend setter but they constantly is able to revive from defeats and product something that's just as good as their competitor(ie IE over netscape ,etc). I think that MS also has been taking strategy for the future of the OS.

I do think that MS maybe a bit slow with their OS release, but agian, I think that sometimes it's a good thing if they can make a good product(unfortunately, that's not usually the case). Still, I really doubt that MS won't be able to keep up with the desktop OS market given to the reasons that the authors claim in the article.

I doubt M$ will stop making OS. Development keeps going and going like CPUs and other hardware. Plus I mean look at the links address.

yes, you are right werty, it's really one sided and it is heavily in favor of mac and trashing MS. Though it does have some (albeit small point) that the google may post a thread, although google's os is just rumor yet. Still, I think looking at windows live and others, it does seems like more and more that our computer is heavily connected to the net, and one day we may actually use a computer where the os is on the net, rather than on our hd.

Yeah, that's just humorous... A bunch of Apple users now dual-boot or run a virtual windows XP, and some Apple resellers are even bundling XP with their macs now!

The windows operating systems just have to large of the market share for MS to have any reason to go anywhere anytime soon... although 2015 does sound about right for the next OS release to replace Vista!!

i doubt if we will see vista in 2010 as major OS
it replacement will probably hit the stores around 2009 or such and will be out in 2010

:)You want Microsoft to stop printing money...
Actually even Microsoft can't decide were they will go in next 7 year. One of the main factors that will really do influence on OS market is Silicon "FAB" companies such as Intel, TI and AMD. The problem is that today silicon technology is going to rich phisical limits. There are a lot of companies startups that are working today on new chemical compaunds that will replace sisicon as semicondactor matirial. I working in one company that is in tuch with microelectronic production market all over the world. So there are some aditional problems in growing of Microelectronic Devices speed year to year. Analitics predicting strong grow till 2009 in 2009 the silicon technology will reach it phisical maximum. For exampl the technology of photoprinting of MicroElectronical schems (dies) on silicon plate ("wafer") will also has to be improved, simply thay limited with laser wave length that define print resolution.
So I think that we will see some changes in new directions of MicroElectronic production that maybe will change also all computer hardware and OS concepts. Also analitics predicting some pause in speed of developing new chips near 2009 - 2010

I think that MS is always being too ambitious with their OS, hance they wrote one humongous OS and takes way too long, that's why they are always not in the forefront of teh OS, rather more of catching up with the rest of the world. Mac seems to be smarter by releasing OS much often and keep the price of the OS low. ON the other hand, it's nice to see MS keep the OS for long time, as you buy 1 OS and you can get the sp's for free(well, not 100% free I guess, yuo paid whenyou bought hte OS).

MS will DEFINIETLY keep on making OSese because they make almost half of the yearly profits for MS so im pretty sure that thats a lie but you can never be sure unless officially said
