10 Year Birthday Party Contest

Well to celebrate 10 years being in the tech site business we are going to have a contest for our forum members. We will have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize, XFX and I are working out the final details of the prizes.

We are going to have 3 sections to the contest to win and then the forum members will be averaged across all 3 sections to find the winners.

Section 1

The post: Whoever posts the most # of post on the site in the month of May. One liner spam post will not be counted. Members will be ranked on how they do on this.


Section 2

The games: 3 games will be in this part of the contest. The games are as follows.

Tetris

Asteroids

Kitty Toss

Members will be ranked on how well they do on this.

Section3

Make something that shows how much you like Bjorn3D. It is submitted in a picture at the end of the month. It must have something with Bjor3D in it. I would suggest not posting your pictures till the end of the month in a thread I will start on the last day of the month. You do not want someone one upping you.

Members will be ranked on how they do on this.


The winners will then be decided on by an average scoring done at the end of the month of all the areas.


That is my 10 year birthday contest. I will let you know what XFX comes up with for prizes as soon as I know.

I think we should change the game since it is not based on skill.
You can just write the colors on a paper (or a text file) and click them...
No point there as well as boring, but then, that's just me.

The only thing I cannot understand, is having the "maximum" number of posts during the contest period. I really hope that the forum won't be "flooded".
Of course "one-liners" are not allowed/wanted, so I'll do my best to post A LOT of useful/informative posts as much as I can.

Just don't forget to update us when your get the Prizes info from XFX. :D

How exactly are you gonna score "section 3"?

I don't think "Kitty Toss" AKA "Kitty Cannon" should be included because that game only relies on luck and not skill. "Target" takes more skill and that is what Olympics is all about: skill. Its not my fault no one other than me has a technique in "Target".

I don't think you should be biased just because Pym is pretty much first place in almost all of the games, thats why its better that I think all the games should be included and the person with the most points wins first, second with with the second most points, and third person with the third amount of points; this way it would be more open since the winners will be the people with the most points and not who comes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the games. Plus the the Olympics have more than one game.

You don't have to worry about sbrehm on this one. Maybe a script could be written to make a minimum number of characters to make a valid post. This gets rid of the one liners.

If the scoring is gonna be done by points then whoever gets the most points in Tetris and Astroids is pretty much the winner. 50,000-60,000 points doesn't compare to 200 posts.

I think kitty toss is a random chance, so it may give people, who are not good at games, just a chance to win something. I think it's a good game to be included. Maybe we can have some small prize for those who got the 1 place of the 3 games and then combine the scores of all 3 games to determine the top winner. that way everybody will be happy.

No you do not understand, it is like a tryathlon. Some body could do real good at the games, but suck at posting and/or the Bjorn3D picture and not get any prize.

Will a person's total points be divided by 3 since there are 3 sections?

Have you decided on how are you gonna score the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place standings of each section? 1st place gets 3 points? 2nd gets 2 point? 3rd gets 1 point?

I don't know how you would score a picture.

Would each post count as one point?

How you would give points in the games?

If you are not the top poster in Section 1 does this mean you don't get any points for this section?

The games: 3 games will be in this part of the contest. The games are as follows.

What do you mean by how well? So being in 1st place doesn't matter?

You guys are giving me a headache. I am not going to use #'s from the games to average out a score.

I am going to take the top 10 in each game and give them a points ranked 1-10. 10 of coarse being # 1 player.

Then I will average out the scores across the 3 games. The person with the Highest # will be the winner of that round, next person is second, next person is 3rd.

Yeah thats a bit better. Will Section 1 & 3 have a top 10 system?, 10 points being first place and 1 points being 10th place; this means not everyone would be included. Also having friends and family choosing the best pictures submitted so not be biased. Too bad not all the games are included since scores don't matter; why not add all the games in this case?

Y'all need to have a little trust in Mr. Scott, he my not be Borg (Read: Perfect) but he oughta have plenty of experience in handling contests, from what I've seen from the 2 weeks I've been here.

It's not like anyone here is directly sponsering the contests, so Scott should have free reign. A little constructive criticism is okay, but clamoring for every minor or intricate detail in how the contest works would quickly start to annoy anyone into deciding not to have a contest at all... Not trying to be dramatic or anything, but I've seen it happen elsewhere. :???:

PowerColor is no longer sponsering Europe so XFX is covering also. This does mean in June that their will be only one prize and someone in North America or Europe will win it.

I know it's prizes involved but don't take the contest to dead serious. It's also meant to be a bit fun for everyone so we'll see what games we can find that works well. I have a bunch of more games I could install.

Now dont get me wrong...I am not here just because of this competition - although I joined because some old member(dont know if he likes to be named!? will ask him and publish his name if he agrees :mrgreen: ) of Bjorn3D said to me that there is some sort of games competition going on here...and since i love online games...I said why not...let check it out...:mrgreen: ;)

So its more about having fun, meeting new people and stuff...and if a prize drops by...why not...I mean...if we are honest...we all love'em dont we? ;)

I also wanna say that I've been around site even before, mainly in reviews and news sections...cause I always want to check whats new and how some products work in "real-life" situations...not just on paper...:cool:

Sometime on the 1st of May Bjorn will reset the scores. He is flying across the Atlantic Ocean Sunday night/Monday morning and will reset them latter that day. I am probably not going to send out announcement to other websites until Tuesday.
