Hello, I'm putting together a computer for a friend before he ships of to camp. He has a Asus P4p800 Deluxe mobo and Nvidia 6800GS AGP card( and Win 98 OS. While setting up software everything was going smoothly(as usual) then when i went to install the nvidia drivers the comp tells me that no card can be found on the comp. I looked in the control panel under display adapters and it siad standard VGA addapter, so i uninstalled that driver to put the new nvidia. after it restarted i went to put the new driver on and again it said that there was no card present. Its odd because on start-up it lists the card, the manu., and the memory size. After fiddling with it i siad screw it and decided to reinstalml the OS after wiping it(just in case). Again everything was running smoothly until it came to install the drivers when it again said that the comp couldnt detect any Nvidia cards on the comp. I'm not the greatese=t builder in the world (obviously) so if there is anything i did not do or overlooked in my haste that you can think of please let me know. Thanks- Tony

Make sure you are using Win98 drivers and not XP drivers; V81.98 is the newest. Make sure the power connector is connected to the video card. Try installing XP and see if it works.

Exactly! Try as werty316 recommended. ;)

Personally...I dont know why he(you?) installed Win98 on such machine? By my opinion WinXP would be much better choice...and also offer much faster, safer, easier setup and everything... ;) I believe you wouldnt be having all your current "problems" @ WinXP...(assuming that you connected everything right and that you're using right drivers and everything)...but it's up to each individual to decide what suits him/her best...I just hope you solve this "problem"...let us know,ok? ;)

Best wishes.

i only installed win 98 because thats all he has, and i am using the drivers meant for 98. I might be able to find my old xp disc and use my old code but i dont know if i can do that

I am not sure if you can use XP on more than one machine since you have to activate it unless I am wrong. I don't about this because I use a Corporate version which doesn't need to be activated.

...from my old days...I believe you can install and activate it with same code...BUT...the problem would be with updates...cause that new verification tool will detect that and wont allow to upgrade XP's later (which will be worse than up-to-date Win98 for sure)...now we all probably know that there are workarounds for that detection tool...but I wont discuss them here nor anywhere else...cause I rather stay on legal side... ;)

You can try to install and check it out makenx19...then let us know to help you further if needed...Good Luck...;)

Is it the software drivers telling you no card can be found on the computer?

While I can't read the screen what you are saying sounds pretty close to what happens when I try to install the common nVidia drivers on my laptop... except that the common nVidia drivers do NOT support the "GO" range of cards, so I had to hunt down the special GO series of drivers for it.

I'd verify the exact make and model of the video card through your Device Manager, and then make sure the drivers you are trying to use list that exact card under the supported cards list.

If all else fails, download these and give 'em a try: 81.98 for Win9x (http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/81.98/81.98_forceware_win9x_english.exe)

Well I tihnk his situation is he installs Win98 and then when he installed video card drivers he gets a response saying that no video card can be found. Not sure why the drivers won't recognize the 6800GS. I don't think he is using a GO video card either.
