Intel Core Duo: AOpen i975Xa-YDG to the Rescue (http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2750&p=1)

For anyone that still has a question about Conroe's performance claims... this should be a very interesting read!

In a nutshell, a Core Duo T2400 paired with the 975X chipset on an AOpen board is able to shut out an AMD Opteron 165 running in an Asus A8R32-MVP. Both processors were tested (And frequently retested as noted) running at 1.8ghz, and at a 2.8ghz overclock. Even with the impressive performance leads and some of the marginal leads, the Core Duo is reported to still able to reach a further overclock to 3ghz. And the Core Duo already has better power and thermal characteristics on it's side...

Don'tcha just like scandalizing headlines... :D

Not bad but it doesn't blow the 165 away like the Conroe would. I don't think there will CPU that Intel releases that will make me turn but who knows what the Conroe and AMD's 65nm chips will bring.

That's my point! The Core Duo is only a refresh of the Pentium M... really a "Pentium M 2". So if that is able to take on AMD and win in every benchmark-even if within the general margin of error in several-then with all of the new "hardware" in Conroe I've become expectant that Conroe will be completely beyond anything AMD has today, and at least until they start ramping up clock speeds on their upcoming 65nm K8L architecture. Even then I'd bet that the EE edition will still top it.

tsktsktsk the core duo is just a remake of pentium m, for a while they were evn using the same stickers, lol, its not going to turn over anything until a complete core duo remake, after all it is a pentium m remake
