Hey guys i'm getting some extra cash here in the next week and I wanted to upgrade my other computers video card. It's still on AGP and I don't wanna fork out money for a PCI express mobo yet. The computers specs are an AMD 3200+ 1gig of ram and uhh that's probley the most important information? I was wondering if a Geforce 7800GS would be able to run Oblivion with it's current specs on all high with HDR enabled? My thanks goes to who ever can answer!

What resolution are you planning on play it at? At 1024x768 it should be fine running the game with high settings and HDR but it depends on what CPU you have,.

The computer has a AMD athlon 3200+. I am planning to run it at 1024 by 768.. Or maybe 1280 by 720 if that would be possible.

I think you won't be able to run anything higher than 1024x768 with high settings and HDR.

Check out this article on Oblivion here (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2746&p=1).

I would estimate a 7800GS would perform between the 7800GT and the 7600GT, with it being much closer to the 7600GT side of things. I think running everything on high with HDR might be a little to much, but you can judge that for yourself. :)

Even on 1024x768?

I read on other forums that most some users can run it at 1024x768 with high settings and HDR but it did stutter sometimesbut 800x640 was fine.

Well I guess I should pick up an xbox 360 rather then upgrading that video card .

Oblivion is workout for a graphics cards plus HDR doesn't help by enabling it. Its pretty much the only game that gives nVidia and ATI top end cards a run for their money.

So would it be better to just play it on an xbox 360?

Yeah that at least is the nice thing about consoles. The game developers know that the hardware is not going to be upgraded.

They can make a PC game nowing that graphics cards are going to get faster ever 6-8 months and push the limits. The PC version will look better than the console unless you have HDTV.

Much better than a 7800GS. 7900GT SLi is a good combo.
