I think it is too expensive. They have to have a reasonable price to compete with the 360. If they don't do that and jack up the price they will need a good release line up to sell it.

Considering it's the same price as a HD-DVD player, a heck of alot cheaper than a $1,000-1,500 Blu-Ray player, that it offers full wireless b/g, and it areadly comes with the drive and such, it actually seems quite reasonable. Especially considering just how much people have been forking over for the Xbox 360, which is close enough to $500 for a premium bundle anyway.

The last I heard, the PS3 was rated to cost $800 to make. And that is valuing the Blue-Ray player at only $350!

Same thing goes with the 360 as I think it costs $750 to make. Its not the consoles that makes the money its the games on the consoles. One reason it costs alot is the Blu-Ray tech. The 360 doesn't have HD-DVD on-board but as a USB drive. 360 Premium is $400USD ($500CAD) just to be clear.

The Premium bundle that features two wireless controllers and the drive is selling for $460 locally. I still can recall people forking over $1,500 on eBay for one with a couple extra games and hardware thrown in...

Considering that you'd have to buy the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 in order to match the BD PS3, I'd say that would even the price difference quite a bit, if not completely switch things around. If MS sells the 360 HDD for $99, I'm sure the HD player extension will be a good bit more.

Edited for typos

IMHO compared to the prices of the first-out ps2 id rather pay 599 than 699 in 2000, and what kougar said is true, people put out lots of money for HD-DVD players and the ps3 has all that in one, plus the 60 gig HDD and all the wireless and whistles and bells in it, i think im more driven than ever to buy one...

Yeah it is crazy that people will pay more than retail a 360 I sold a "core" during its release and made $100USD profit. I think the highest price I haev seen one seel for pon ebay was around $13,000 with all the games at its release time. I guess releasing it close to Christmans was just genious. I bet the same thing will happen if the PS3 has shortages like the 360 did.
