Hmm look like the 7900gt has a competitor ... a very good competitor that is...

At the end of last month, we got word from ATI that the massively delayed Radeon X1800XT had reached its end of life a mere five months after its initial availability. It was rumoured at the time that it would be replaced by a new addition Radeon X1900 family, the Radeon X1900GT. This suggestion was supported by the fact that this card was found on sale for $370 (around £250 including VAT) in the US last week. Some online retailers still stock Radeon X1800XTs and will continue to until stocks run dry. However, we now know that the Radeon X1900GT is ATI's X1800XT replacement.

maybe whoever buys a video card on the high end range should think twice before buying a 7900gt

Both the X1900GT and 7900GT are great cards but I think the 7900GT takes the lead by a bit.

as a matter of fact it does, the 7900gt is a better overclocker but the x1900GT has HDR and that puts the cards at about even, but for true performance and oc people the 7900gt is still the better choice.

7900GT has HDR too. I think you meant that the X1900 cards support both HDR and AA while the 7900 cards only support one or the other. I think that is how it goes.

...why bother with those 2 cards when you can easily pick X1900XTX, 7900GTX or even 7950GTX! The last one surely rocks!  ;)

...I was just kinda kidding...cause I know very well that i.e. OC'ed 7900GT can end up just as fast as GTX (which costs way much)...I believe that any card from X1800, X1900, 7800 and 7900 series (especially from last 3) is great product(more than enough for serious gaming - if only you have other components in that range too), and there arent any major differences between them...so its all about the money...grab the cheapest one(or the most expensive if budget allows you that:mrgreen: ) and you may be sure it will do the job (almost) just as good as the most expensive one... ;)

If you're looking to play Crysis with your next purchase then it must be an ATi card.

Crysis makes useage of ATi's Dedicated Branching Unit for Softshadows amongst other things.

It also uses Fetch4 shadowmap acceleration (which explains why Crytek have been showing it running on ATi hardware ONLY so far... because it's the only hardware that can run the game with all the options turned on at decent framerates).

Of course those who knew what "The Project" was truly about have known this for quite some time. "The Project" demo on ATi's website was the nickname for Crysis. Crytek and ATi worked closely together to ensure that Ati's hardware would support all the required features to run this game.

If you're unfamiliar with the project demo.. you can download it here. (http://www.gamespot.com/pages/gamespace/download.php?pid=371314&sid=6114484&mode=)

It was a demo using the Crytek engine for FarCry adding Motion Blur, Depth of field, moving brush etc... yes all the features found in Crysis. Crysis also supports 3Dc Normal Maps compression as well as FULLY supporting Crossfire. It was made to run on ATi hardware.. from the ground up. ( Like the relationship between ID's John Carmack and nVIDIA for UltraShadow Stencils).

It may come out at a "The Way it's meant to be played" title due to EA being the publisher and EA's relationship with nVIDIA.. but make no mistake... 7900 series won't be able to run the game with any advanced features for fear of a slowdown (infact even a Quad SLI will be slower then two Crossfired x1900... significantly slower).

But of course.. next gen hardware from nVIDIA should introduce a dedicated Branching unit.. as it is a requirment for DX10 titles.
