Title says it all, curious to see if there are any ATI card folding members here, and if so if any are running the standard ATI Catalyst 6.4 drivers. If ya meet these criteria, please post if you have had problems running the folding@home GUI client.
If anyone is running this program on a computer with any type of 9600 model graphics card I'd be interested to hear from you as well ;)
I had previously attempted to install the folding@home GUI client for the first time, and every time XP tried to load it would very shortly black screen the system. The first time this happened it corrupted XP's boot.ini file and locked my machine into a perpetual reboot, start to load XP, then reboot cycle. Not even safe mode or other boot options would work until I rebuilt the boot.ini file, and fixed also missing backup file! Of course that still left the original black screen problem, which has been traced back to a graphics driver conflict with the folding@home GUI client, and I am looking to narrow down the "why" factor since many people are apparently able to run this program.
So far I am running two folding@home consoles in tandem, due to hyperthreading only letting the first thread utilize 50% of it's resources, and everything has been peachy, if a tad warm. And I figured I'd start a thread as this subforum is rather dusty ;)

UPDATE:
Looking for any 9600XT OR old Soundblaster card users that run or attempted to run the Folding@Home GUI-based app. I found another thread with people having the same black screens over in the F@H forums, and these seem to be the common denominator. I'm betting the Soundblaster Opengl drivers are the cause, and will test this out when I can...

From their webapge Werty posted:
What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease? Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.
Folding@home is similar to SETI@home, except that instead of deciphering background noise for possible secret msgs from ET, Folding@Home will run simulations of cellular proteins folding in the humon body in search of understanding how they work in order to find better treatments/cures and causes behind some of today's serious diseases.. Both programs run using only the spare Idle process cycles of your computer. A folding team is simply a group of people working as a team... it's basically been turned into a ranking system in order to draw more interest and get more support for the project. http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=198 (http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=198) Bjorn3D actually has their own folding team too. ;)

Same age as my sister, actually... and she also enjoys clicking mice ;)
I'm probably oversimplifying things, but it's the general idea... Proteins are somewhat the building blocks that control how your body functions, as they do their job they actually "fold" to change "settings". If they don't fold correctly for whatever reason, they can create some big problems, such as Alzheimers and Huntingtons Disease.
Folding@Home is just a simulation of different proteins folding under different conditions so experts in the field can try and figure out exactly what is going on, to with any luck cure some of these problems.

yep but i still understood it that simplified, and yes, my sister too has a thing for clicking mice, when im in my computer room all you hear is bangbangbangbang the whole time (BTW shes 7)
