eVGA and others start to adress teh issue (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTA2OSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==)
Seems it's finally being adressed. Being the owner of a 7900GTX (first XFX now Asus). I already knew of this issue and even talked about here (where I was publically lambasted) it seems HardOCP is taking these companies to task and once by one they're admitting to the widespread... that's right widespread issues envolving factory overclocked cards... mainly the 7900 series.
Read up :)
EDIT: Oh and I'm not the only guy who claimed XFX closed tehre forums because of an increase in defective cards. Of course BFG and eVGA came clean.. XFX continues to pretend there is no problem.. too bad nVIDIA themselves have admitted to there being a problem. Gotta love companies when they're not being fully honest.

Great lead (Ill be reading it through completely)! I just posted an open thread to XFX support asking for "where the hell are the bios updates" that evga seem to provide its users. FOR GOD SAKES, I still have a problem with my fan that wont turn down after startup. I for one support you on this.

I read an article on this issues on HardOCP main page and basically. There is no real fix as nVidia has to fix it. It seems XFX has treated this the worest out of all three companies other being BFG and eVGA. Hopefully nVidia will find a fix for this. You just have to be a lucky one to get a card that doesn't have this issue.

Having read the articles the fix is a long way off in my opnion, the biggest problem is Nvidia are saying its not their fault and the cards are overclocked beyond what they should be, the 3 companies are saying otherwise. So its a merry-go-round and the only looser is the consumer, If I was a few of the people who had posted on the forums having to RMA 4 cards one after another, I would be pretty upset.

Well I would of rather saw the card makers just come out with stock speeds and a good bundle. Now they are all pushing the cards to beat each other out and that is realy hurting their reps and NVIDIA's.
In the old days the enduser would of figured out he was pushing the card to hard, but with the BIOS locking the cards at these overclocked speeds they are asking for trouble.

ahah there we go thats the cold hard truth and i find the locked OC speeds really lame, id honestly rather have a nice bundle like scott said with an unlocked multiplier so if i wanted to OC i could, an ofcourse a case sticker would be nice hehehe
EDIT: I cannot see the rear of this card but asus seems to have the heating issue "covered" ahhaah im funny, on the 7900GT's

asus has covered the RAMsinks and it seems that they have solved the voltage regulators at the back, and plus, asuses arent OC'd... better card right?
