I opened a support ticket (no. 55097) regarding my faulty GF 7900 GT EE 4 days ago, and yet nobody answered me.

My card has the same problems as all those GF 7900 GT's out there, flashing screen, freezes or artifacts in Deep Freeze, artifacts and flashing screen in F.E.A.R., etc.

Here's what I wrote on my support ticket :

I bought this card when I was traveling in the USA 2 weeks ago. I arrived to my home in Europe 2 days ago, and installed the new video card on my computer. It worked fine the first day, absolutely no problems (I played video games such as Sega`s Condemned, Sierra`s F.E.A.R. and Valve`s Half-Life 2). On the 2nd day of use, I tested 3D Mark 2006. And during Graphic Test 4, artifacts of all sorts started to appear on the screen, and when I attempted to return to Windows, the screen started to flash (black screen Windows with artifacts black screen Windows with artifacts black screen, etc.). So I had to reset my system. Then Windows started OK, and I ran Sega`s Condemned. For about 5 minutes there were no problems, and then all of a sudden the game crashed to Windows. After that, I wasn`t able to start any other game. I restarted the system again. This time I ran F.E.A.R.. For about 2 minutes everything went OK, and then artifacts started to appear (boxes of different colors on the textures, and also black lines). I immediately quit the game, but the screen started to flash again (black artifacts black artifact and so on). Now I visited several forums on the web and hundreds of people are reporting problems with their GeForce 7900 GT cards. I guess mine is also defective. I think you`ll ask me to return the card, but the problem is that I threw out part of the box just after buying the card. Are you still going to help me? Can I send you back only the card without the box? Thank you for your understanding. Best regards.

Here are my system specs :

Athlon64 3400+
Gigabyte GA-K8NE rev 2.0
1 GB RAM PC3200
Maxtor 250 GB SATA2
SB Audigy
Fotron 500W PSU

The last 3 days I've done A LOT of testing, and although the card sometimes works, at one point it always ends up artifacting, freezing and flashing.

All I'm asking for, is to get a replacement card. Or is my warrany void because I threw out the big box and only kept the small ones inside and the wires / connectors?

I don't know why people keep bashing these companies like XFX when its nVidia's fault for producing fault 7900GTs after all nVidia makes the cards.

I'm bashing XFX not because I have a problem with my 7900 GT, because it is Nvidia's fault, but I'm bashing XFX because they sell untested cards and above all because THE CUSTUMER SUPPORT IS NOT ANSWERING ME WHEN IT'S SUPPOSED TO!

To bad the 7900GT is plagued so badly since its a great card. This issue hurts nVidia thats for sure.

think about the customers!

nVidia or XFX weigh several millions of dollars.

I have a few hunderd bucks on my bank account.

I have a few open issues with XFX too. However, its labor day weekend and Im sure a lot of support staff are on vacation. They have answered me if you post your issue here in this section of the website.

IMO, do a whole new thread, post your issue here and reference your open ticket. XFX support on Bjorn3d has been fairly decent so far.

I can't sell a faulty card. That would be wrong.

It seems that eVGA is the only company that is actually doing something about these faulty 7900GT cards. I remember reading a thread from either HardOCP or XtremeSytems website where a user showed the difference between a bad 7900GT and a fixed one form eVGA.

EXACTLY, now IMHO nvidia is turning into the dell of video cards, the 7900gt stock cards not only look cheap but are poorly built, even though very good performing, complain to nvidia, not the comanies like XFX, its either nvidia is turning crap (i dont think so) or just that people dont know how to use these cards and care for them properly or they just love to spam

Dear Cyclonix13,
I agree that you should have received a response from our Europe support within 24 hours barring weekends and holidays. I have forwarded this to our Europe management so that they are aware of this delay in getting a response for you. I did take a look at your support ticket and saw that you have received a response and that your ticket is getting serviced by Tony. I can honestly say that you are in good hands as he is one of our best.

I found the thread I was talking about. YOu can clearly see there are difference between the two cards.

XFX Support. Good response, its great to see that you respond whether or not it fixes our problem or not. I do know that a lot of problems are user error and sometimes I question myself.

I realize the fan problem on these 7900gts may or may not be a bios issue. I would just like to eliminate that issue with a bios update before I RMA my card.

Okay thank you but now Tony told me to RMA the card to the retailer ... great. Now I can expect another defective card. But who's gonna pay my shipping fees every time I sent back a defective card?

The user always is responsible for paying shipping their end of shipping when RMA'ing a product.

Yup, unless XFX support say that they will pay for the cost of an RMA, (IE: they send you a new card with a self-addressed postage-paid box for your dead video card), I would think that it will be up to you to cover the shipping costs :(

that's what I expected anyway. goddamn it. I'm not buying another nVidia card until I see a defective ATI.

Dear Cyclonix13,
I understand your frustration but Tony is trying to limit your downtime by having yyou go through your retailer. Although there are a few cards that are faulty that get out the door we at Xfx strive to limit that number as much as possible by strenously testing each card prior to leaving the factory. It is very unlikley that your replacement card will be faulty and I expect a good resolution.
