Would you subscribe to microsoft onecare (http://www.arcon5.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=264)?
I find it absolutely ridiculous that are computers are unsafe and microsoft are offering such products. why the hell cant they provide it for free? afterall, if it would help their reputation then it would benefit them!!!!
why dont they? why? because they are a greedy, monopolistic, money orientted company.
yes, they want to make huge profit, but why cant they help themselves by helping us?
maybe if they were more in to developement rather than distribution, they would not have to have days like'patch tuesday' (http://www.arcon5.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=204)
to say bill gates dosnt want to be the richest man (http://www.arcon5.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=195), what the hell is he doing with Microsoft? making it more and more profitable and dominant - taking advantage of this! creating more legal problems for them - with adobe (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32144)
end of rant!!

I TOTALLY AGREE!
Sad but true...but thats how their policy works...get $, $ and more $....:???: :(
And leave BG out...who cares about him...afterall he only gets $1 of annual vage (and few billions in stocks,hahahaha)....damn....they (M$) could really give much more to customers in return...than to just "steal" $$$ from them (us)...I rather dont even think about all this...because I would have lots of headaches and sleepless nights...and for what...for M$!?? No waY!
Anyway...the only bright thing that I see in BG is that at least he donates big money (maybe seems like big to us but for him that is pocket money  ) for poor people in poor countries and also for some research in finding cures there....but hey...I just wonder what he'll want back in few years if they improve standards there....that everyone buys M$ Windows for few $100's??? I guess answer lies very close to my theory...:???: :(

it may be a money-greedy company BUT.... it works because the other known OSes are linux and mac's tiger and soon-to-come panther as vistas competitor, M$ has made itself the most used OS in the world and actually the only OS for average joe's because of the way they work and how people are used to them, people simply just HAVE to buy this OS since almost all software is designed to run on windows, am i right?:paw: :-D

Well M$ has no other competition really so its either use M$ apps or use nothing at all.

What is the fuss??
Microsoft One care is not replacing automatic updates. They'd be taken to court faster than anyone can blink if they tried to charge for updates and bug fixes.
Microsoft One Care is basically just another subscription Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware and Automatic updates package for the OS and MS Office both, all rolled into one large program. It also does drive maintenence, backups, and other stuff, not to mention a 24/7 help line. It's geared towards the average Joe that doesn't have a clue how to protect his computer.
As for MS being the majority of the OS market... I would blame the consumers before MS itself, at least nowadays. Why? One example, is the computer lab at my University. They have over 100 Dell systems crammed into a large server room, and also about 15 iMacs, those Mac computers that are built into the LCD display. There is always a line waiting for students needing to use those computers, and usually just for web surfing or email use, yet I've never seen more than half of the iMacs in use. Sometimes there is a line waiting for those 100 Dells using XP, and there are only two users using the Macs... I will just bypass the lines and go use a iMac instead of waiting around 10 or more minutes for a Dell, but none of the other students think twice about it and have to use XP... And really, many don't even know how to use XP even.
It's rather ironic, as the Mac MS Office edition isn't really that different than the Windows version... even all the keyboard shortcuts work on them ;) And you don't need to know anything to use a web browser to get into your hotmail accounts, which is about what half the lab is used for

I love reading about people complaining about the poor little college drop-out that stuck it out during the hard times when everyone else cashed it in. And now what does he have to show for his hard work and sticking with it, the richest man in the world. .............;)
And for those that don't know, the man gives back billions to the world every year through the Gates foundation.........:)

Late to chime in but Id also like to add that XP is 6 years old and the internet world is not as safe as it once was. As for onecare it mostly geared for those less savy. I use nod32 and Windows defender and I have never been infected since using that combo.
