Holy crap holy crap holy crap; gaze and behold the 7950GX2 and its greatness.

GeForce 7950 GX2 reference and XFX!!! @ Guru3d (http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/353/)

That's right people, come and see come and see! NVIDIA officially gave birth to Siamese twins today! I promise, I'll try not to make any twin jokes okay? So what is it about Siamese twins that makes them so special? Well they look alike, you feel for them yet they are a little peculiar aren't they? And yes that's exactly what is going on with today's tested products. And I do say products as we will be testing both the NVIDIA reference design GeForce 7950 GX2 and XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 "XXX" edition, which obviously is a pre-overclocked version of the reference model of the card.

So out of curiosity, how do they compare to your previous SLI rig? I'm sure the power draw is much less, in the very least...

Power Consumption Levels:

Low power consumption and being 'green friendly' is all the rage in the market today. We took a pair of the GeForce 7800GTX 512's and measured them at idle and load versus the overclocked XFX GeForce 7950GX2 and the results were shocking. Let's take a look at the test system used for power consumption testing.

*AMD A64 X2 5000+ (AM2) Processor
*ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluexe Motherboard
*Nautilus 500 Water Cooling by Corsair Memory
*4GB Corsair PC-6400C3 800MHz DDR2 Memory
*Thermaltake 750W ToughPower Power Supply

We looked at the total system power consumption at idle with nothing running on the desktop.

Reference NVIDIA 7800GTX 512's - 177W
XFX's GeForce 7950GX2 XXX Edition - 154W

At idle the GeForce 7950GX2 uses roughly 23W less power than a pair of 7800GTX 512's. Let's now run a 3D application like Futuremarks 3DMark06 and see what they run like under a load.

Reference NVIDIA 7800GTX 512's - 401W
XFX's GeForce 7950GX2 XXX Edition - 284W
Quad-SLi Action! (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/354/3/)

Talk about a big difference

that card is really a killer
it looks like Nvidia has done it again...
wonder if combine this with Aegia physics card ....
congrats on the card scott

Aegia might be onto something, but I won't get interested until they start shipping a PCIe x4 edition to their cards! With all the noise ATI is generating over their own x1000 model cards doubling as PPUs, it looks like the whole physics thing is here to stay... so with any luck that'll be enough to get the game (And other) developers on the bandwagon, and then we'll get to see something come of PPUs in the first place :)

Thanks Werty for those numbers!

As if Scott ever had to worry about power draw of anything with the PSU that he's running.................

Well, just wait until Scott upgrades to the XFX 7950GX2 "XXX" card that I have heard about... and then gets a second one for quad-SLI ;) He'll need the extra headroom!

Edit: I take that back... NewEgg already is selling the "XXX" GX2s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150159 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150159)

this card is a great value to any SLI enthusiast, cheaper than 7900GTX SLI, faster, cooler and ofcorurse quad-sli, and its so lame that dell still offers the SLI 7900GTX in their new xps700 and its more expensive than single 7950GX2,tsktsktsk tricking average joes again

Quad-SLi of course if you have two. Hopefully nVidia will make more optomized drivers that takes advantage of it; there are the new beta v91.31 which I haven't tried yet.
