View Full Version : 7900 GT (470Mhz) Crashes To Desktop In Games

I just installed my card with latest Forceware driver. Every time I play a game (Oblivion, Fear) it crashes to the desktop after a few minutes. One time in Oblivion, the screen just went black but did not quit to desktop. I could still navigate the menus to shutdown the game. My CPU temps look fine. Not sure about GPU. I have not overclocked anything. I need to check my dongles from the card, but I believe they are on separate rails. If not, would this cause a problem if they are drawing from the same rail?

I did do a help desk ticket submission on XFX. It hasn't been 24 hrs yet, but I want to be able to play games on my new card.

My setup is:
AMD 64 3200+ (Skt 754)
Abit NV8 MOBO
Geil 2 x 512MB PC3200
XFX PV-T71G-UDF7 GeForce 7900 GT (470MHz)
Rosewill Value Series 500w PS

Dear Blackjaw,
I apologize that you have not gotten a response from the support site and I will be looking into this. As for your issue please make sure all the pwoer dongles are connected as this is very important for proper operation and try not to share with the Harddrive. I was looking for your PSU specs but I am unable to determin the amperage on the +12v rail for your PSU. Please chek to make sure it is an SLI approved PSU or that it has the required 20 amps on hte +12v rail. I know that the patch for Oblivion has improved the stability of this game dramatically so please check for that. Finally please go to www.nzone.com and give the latest beta drivers (91.28) a go.

Thanks for the heads up on the official patch release for Oblivion. Although, it doesn't explain my FEAR problem. I do have both dongles connected. My hard drives are connected on their own line as they are SATA. I am not sure if my video card is sharing a line with itself (meaning both dongles are on the same line) would this cause problems? I don't plan on running SLI, so I figured this PS would be okay to run your card. I will look into the nzone beta drivers. Thanks for your quick reply.

I sicerely hope the Oblivion patch helps but it sounds as if you have other issues as well. Unfortunately it appears that this card is faulty and in need of replacement. We regret that this route must be used but, we are happy to issue an RMA to have your card sent here for testing and repair or replacement. However if you are within the 30 day grace period with your retailer and you wish to contact them for an exchange please let us know. Please inform the support team of how you would like to proceed.
