Hi
We all know that 7900 series have some problems, by the way we don't know why. I'm concerned, so I mailed XFX, they answered me quick n precise (yeah yeah, Help Desk is good :)), but they seem to ignore that there is a REAL problem. Maybe it's more "complicated" than it, but eVGA for example has done what it could to help owners : sending other cards, try to repair it (by the way i'm unlucky because I'm french lol), etc.
In spite of its relatively good Help Desk, XFX did... uuh... nothing.
I'm not here to flame it, but... WHAT NOW ?

PS : Sorry for my english.

i dont know because i have never owned an XFX card, but BFGs service is the same, tehyll answert you in a matter of seconds and they give precise answers and have admitted and warned me of common complaints and complications about my card, so far nothing bad has happened to my card anyhow, hey stop making me feel bad about XFX because it was gonna be in my next rig until i keep reading these volt chip problems gees

i suggest if you cant fix this problem RMA the card, try to fix itr yourself, and if nothing of that sort wprks, go with a different MFG that doesnt OC their cards or an MFG thatr OCs their cards in a safer way
and if youre planning on a new card just put heatsinks on the volt chips at teh back of the card, theres a post about that, see if that helps

I heard eVGA is top notch with service plus I think they give you an advanced RMA replacement.

Yeah, eVGA has a "cross shipping" system, and it owns ! XFX should do the same  It's a shame that they don't do anything special for the 7900 series.
For the volt chips, yeah I was planning buying a Vf 900, because heatsinks can fit them from what i heard.

I'm using a OCZ cooper BGA sink on my card now, one sink will cover all 3 of the little IC's.

From looking around on the internet it would appear that EVGA has had some difficulties with their 7900 series of cards but, I am not an employee of their company so I am unaware of what they are actually seeing or responding to. I can say that Xfx is not experiencing an abnormal number of faulty cards in any of the 7900GT or GTX cards. We recently discovered that a small percentage of the7900GTX and possibly the GT cards are having an issue with 3D Mark 06 resulting in artifacting and crashes when Artic Freeze and possibly the CPU tests are enable. We are working closely with nVidia on this and expect a resolution very soon. If any one is experiencing any abnormal behavior with their product please contact us at www.xfxforce.com and create a support ticket so we may work with you to resolve the problem.

I'm having artifacts with the second test of 3DMark06 (Firely Forest or something like that). I created a ticket, but "PaulV" just told me to change drivers, to look at the temperature, etc.
I hope there will be another "serie" of the cards to "fix" the problem.

Sometimes artifacting can be the result of many differing sources. Corrupted drivers or incomplete installs of the drivers being the most usual. Lack of power due to insufficient amperages from the PSU. Wattage isn't the only thing to look at. (Usually any SLI certified PSU will run any card on the market at this time) Whenever trouble shooting an issue it is generally a god thing to start with making sure the Video drivers and the mainboard Bios and chipset drivers are all current. This helps alleviate any know compatibility issues and the current status of the system is a stable platform. Also memory bleeds and conflicts with other devices (usually represented by NV4_dll or IRQL not sufficient error) can also cause artifacting as they are trying to reassert themselves. When ever contacting any support team it is always a good idea to be as specific as possible and inform them of the testing you have already done so we know where to direct you in the event you may have missed something. Please let PaulV know if the new driver install does not work so we can try to get your system functioning.

Yep, there are on, it was just yesterday. Sorry

I RMA the card today... No problems after 3 benchs of 3DMark06 in the all cooled lab of the shop. They will keep my card, then, I'll see.

I guess my drivers are well installed : even if the cd was bad (it made BSODs), I downloaded the 84.21 and installed them properly. After a week, I upgraded with the 91.28 : safe mode, 84.21 removed, reboot, safe mode, 91.28 installing.

Glad to hear you are getting taken care of. Please make sure to register your new card if they replace it. Also please keep in touch so we know how the card is working when you get it back.
