Bill Gates plans to hand over the day to day running of Microsoft so he can concentrate on charity work for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
There will be a two year transition period, meaning that Bill will hand over the reins at some time in 2008. The statement from Microsoft does say that, although Gates is handing over the main bulk of his role, he will still remain as Chairman and advisor after 2008.
