i have an old card, mabeh some of you have heard of it
GeForce FX 5200 256mb ddr400
it runs good atfer OC to 310mhz for the core, and 456mhz for the ram
i can go more, but that is the detected frequencies, plus im on stock cooling(no fan) i am also running Z-tweaked drivers, i would like some omega drivers, but the guy had to stop making nvidia ones for a while
it runs good, except whenever im gaming, it will ocasionaly stop and freeze my whole comp for a bit(only like 4-5 seconds)
and sometimes it gets funky graphical errors(i think texture problems)
im running dual monitors, 1280x1024 on each
wuht do you guys think? am i gonna burn it soon?
oh, and hi im new to the site XP

Card is overheating and is throttling down to cool down. That is what the pauses are.

Yeah, Scott is absolutely right...just go down with frequencies a bit, or...you'll end up with a fried card...:(
Oh...and WELCOME ABOARD to the forums!!!

hmm...those frequencies are from the automatic OC that is the coolbits mod
but ill try that, ive also noticed before that it does work better if you takea cold dew out from the fridge and put it under the card, i have like a 1/2 an inch of space, but it still draws away the heat...cheap...yet effective
on another note, how do i get [img] enabled? it says vB enabled, but not [img], i need it for my siggy, thx

Just because some software program sets the OC doesn't mean it's safe. That program doesn't have a clue your GPU is passively cooled... You either need to install a fan on your graphics card or back off the clocks until it ceases to overheat to fix the problem, let alone not burn it up at some point. ;)
IMG codes is enabled... but not for sigs. ;)

well i do have a fan under it, you know the ones where it takes up 2 expansion slots
it doesnt match up with the heatsink, so i moved it down 1 place
it pumps out a lota air, so i think thats helping out alot...
i could always experiment with a few old heatsinks i have laying around...

Hm, and it still has those problems?
Have you tried uninstalling all your graphics drivers, then reinstalling some that have worked fine in the past? You should give ATI Tool (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/259) a try and see if it can detect the temps on your vid card, if to at least confirm it's a temp related issue.

well yah, the ones that work...are slow...the ones that are fast...are unstable
and you sure the ATI Tool will work with a nvidia card? :???: seems weird to me
but nevertheless ill give it a shot, and i will also try and turn off my comp once ina while so it can cool...

I was also surprised to know that...but the new version of ATI Tool works pretty good with nVidia Video Cards as well...you should try it out...GOOD LUCK.

well tried it, but couldnt detect the temps, nor the right clocks i have set, but i did put a il fan on there that i found in the closet, sucks, but it will help

It should help a bit...and if not, you can always, go down a bit with your clocks (like we already offered you). I perosonally don't like "running on the edge" with my hardware (for both my overclocked Video Card and CPU)...
But hey, it's up to you to decide, that's only my 2cents advice...

meh, i like pushing out all the juice i can, i need to get the most out of it before it actually goes,
sometimes flogging an old horse gets the job done:lol:
i havent been gaming as much lately, but ive noticed its been a lil smoother since i put that fan on, also i can go up to 350 for my gpu, and 470 for ram
but i only have it set at 310(250stock) and 456(333stock, even though it says 400 on the box)
still ive been playing with riva tuner, that helps, and on speedfan, shich temp is which? it doesnt say, so idk which is my gpu and which is my sys

The hotter one (around 70-80C) should be your GPU temp, while the other should be your sys temp...:???:

Easiest way to find out is to stop your CPU fan for a few seconds, and see which temp starts climbing the quickest. Speedfan usually finds the CPU, PWM, and Case temps... it doesn't usually find graphic card temps. From my experience if ATI Tool doesn't find any GPU temps, then nothing else will as the card doesn't have any temp sensors to be found.

Oops... Kougar is probably right, as I totally forgot that smartfan doesn't show any GPU temps, and especially, since you have a pretty old card, I guess there is no reason for a GPU Temp Sensor to be found at all...
Thank Kougar for inlightening us...

well i dont think i need it anymore, because i found an old cpu fan on my dads old mobo, its 7000rpm, and its noisy as hell, but it will keep my card at a decent temp.
thx for the inputs!
