HKEPC compares the Core 2 Extreme X6800, the FX62 and the PEE 965 processors. It is in Chinese, use Google to translate it if you want. Anyway, the slides are in English and well documented. From Intel's Intelligent Power Capability to the Advanced Smart Cache, you will get to know more about the next generation Intel processor. How far does the Core Extreme goes in beating both the AMD processor and the Intel PEE 965? See the review for yourself. The core overclocks to 3.6GHz.

I just found the review! HKEPC has done the most comprehensive and balanced testing of a X6800 against a FX-62 that I have seen to date.

The TDP/wattage/power draw numbers were also in there, and naturally AMD didn't win one of 'em. The entire array of benchmarks were a complete shutout at stock speeds except for one single synthetic program... :mrgreen:They even include a Presler 965EE for comparison, which shows just how much of a leap Intel's new Core is over their old design...

I see the chip they used was a B0 revision stepping 5 model... I wonder if 3.6ghz was the max stable overclock or just an abritrary number? So far two different people have shots claiming they can get this new models to reach 4ghz on air... One was using a Big Typhon and I believe the other was a Zalman...

Hm, I guess Half Life 2 really favors the Conroe design... The FPS differences were pretty large in all the HL2 benches I've seen before now, but in particular the highest resolution bench they took showed the largest difference?

Half Life 2:
1600x1200 4AA:
X6800 | FX62
187.36 | 144.65

Crossfire HIS X1900XT Catalyst 6.5 Drivers

The 2.93ghz Conroe held a 42.71FPS lead over the 2.8ghz FX62... at that setting? Looks like the term being "CPU Limited" holds true more than usually thought I'd have to guess. Here's the complete HL2 breakdown

1024 x 768: 482.63 | 445.52
1280 x 1024: 422.57 | 383.25
1600 x 1200: 313.68 | 285.64
1600 x 1200 4AA: 187.36 | 144.65

Except for the 3rd bench, the first two and the last one all show ~39fps lead accross the board. I wonder if they double-checked that 3rd benchmark run, that seems odd...

Hmmm...that's really interesting. :???:

Thanks for the info, Kougar!

Can you give us the exact link where you found the review? That would be great.

The reivew is linked to inside the article you posted. Could have sworn I repasted it though, must have gotten lost after one of my frequent accidental back/forward clicks...

Regardless, Page 1 (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hkepc.com%2Fhwdb%2Fx6 800vsfx62-2.htm&langpair=zh-CN%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools) of the article in question, on the HKEPC website :)

I knew it was there, but it's in Chinese?!? And I totally forgot that I can easily translate it... Thanks anyway...

No surprises for those that know that the Conroe is faster than anything AMD has.

It's actually fairly readible after the Google translation, surprisingly. But you don't need to read anything except the Intel PPT slides and the benchmarks, which don't need translation

While on this topic... MadShrimps has a X6800 Conroe and has OCed it as far as possible on air, from 2.93ghz to 3.75ghz... Article and some light benches is at http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=465

Keep in mind they used a revision 4 Conroe... the revision 5's can reach 4ghz on air. ;) Was interesting to note it ran on stock voltage at 3.3ghz though...

WOW!!! 3.3GHz on STOCK Voltage??? That's awesome!!! Not mentioning 4GHz on air!!! WOW!!!

Thanks for the info, Kougar!

It gets better!!

I just realized what I was looking at over at a different site... There has long been speculation by those (including myself) closely following all the latest info on the THG forum Conroe threads and elsewhere, that Conroe would be sensitive to high or at least higher DDR2 RAM latencies. However, the complete opposite looks to be true.

It is simply ironic... AMD's AM2 is very sensitive to RAM latency, but they have a built in memory controller. Intel's Conroe could care less about RAM latency, but they don't have a inbuilt memory controller... So much for the integrated memory controller being AMD's ace up the sleeve!

Give this page a read! http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?cat=cpu&id=456&pagenumber=2

I now plan to be grabbing the Crucial Value Select DDR2 RAM, and spending that saved money on a slightly better CPU or GPU...

Edit: I'll add the E6600 2.4ghz $316 Conroe seems to be wiping the floor with AMD's 5000+/FX60, which naturally goes double/triple for the 955XE and 840EE Pentiums...
