Fat chance, but it'll make things all the more interesting... :)

Is this enough to hammer Intel Core 2 Duo?

HEXUS can report that the AMD Athlon FX-64 will be available to system integrators in the UK at a price point of $999 per CPU from the 8th August 2006.

AMD raised the performance bar by launching its AM2 Athlon FX-62 back on the 23rd May and at the time we said it would have to do something special to compete with Intel's Conroe, which we exclusively reported about here. It looks like this ramp in performance is AMD's best shot at the moment against the big, bad Intel processor.

Now wouldn't it be funny if AMD came out with a limited edition (FX64 with the K8L 65nm core) just to put up a little competition.......;) It was reported several months ago that AMD was already sampling the new cores, I think it would be a good thing to see. Stranger things have happened.

It would be very funny... but I heard that AMD had only just taped out their next uArch design? Now I can't remember anymore if that was regarding Brisbane or K8L... argh!! But it would certainly go a longs ways to fending off potential damage to their image from Conroe if that can.

The more higher end parts the merrier is my view on it, but I don't think it'd be enough... I'm about to make a post on Kentsfield. ;)
