AMD RECENTLY had talks with its motherboard partners and revealed to them its 4x4 anti-Conroe strategy. If all goes well, the boards and the dual Athlon FX CPUs for ultra high-end gaming will be ready for the Yule shopping madness.

It will be interesting to see if this all comes about.......;)

Two Athlon FX 64s in a dual-CPU motherboard will certainly give Conroe a run for its money, no matter how aggressively Intel clocks its new babies.
I'm not trying to be negative here, but people seem to ignore the costs this would entail... First, even if it is NOT only restricted to being FX62/FX64 powered, the motherboards will be in limited supply/demand so I bet the prices won't be low... I'd rather just by a single XE Conroe and build the rest of the system
From what I know, dual-socket Opteron boards require sepearate memory banks devoted to each CPU. The optimal config for performance is two sticks of DDR2 mem per CPU... So how much would two CPUs, 4x1gb sticks of RAM, and a highly specialized motherboard add to the total cost? It should win the performance crown, but most people wouldn't be getting to make use of it!
That said, true 4x4 with two quad-cores would be just plain crazy to think about though....
