Hiya guys.
Just a quick question. Can this GFX card be run in SLI at the mo & is it hard to set up.
Just thinking of selling my XFX 7800GTX's & buying 2 7950's
Cheers

The answer is not at this moment.
Two GeForce 7950 GX2 in an SLI configuration ("Quad SLI") are currently only supported as complete systems from a small select group of partners.

Quad SLI will be supported through a future release of the Rel 90 software driver for GeForce 7950 GX2.

I would also suggest holding off on buy two 7950GX2 as having 2 of them is over kill and a waste of $.

BUT, if you're thinking of sellling your 7800GTX's, which model are they, and how much for them, separate or together? :P

They are XFX cards & probably about £300 each. They are 3 months old however i'm won't be selling them untill i sort out the 7950's. Problem is i bought my system complete & had to ship it to me overseas so i have no boxes for my cards!!! I don't consider buying 2 in SLI a waste as they'll cost about the same as my current cards. I just need to know if i can use 2 in SLI once this driver comes out & when. And if it'll be a simple job to fit (i'm better with planes than i am with computers). Besides think of the performance & that CAN'T be a waste of time
Cheers

Rob,

What resolution does your monitor run and CPU do you have is the better question right now. If you can not run higher than 1600x1200 then getting 2 cards is a waste of money. Also if you get 2 cards your better have a fast CPU to drive them, meaning at least an X2 4800.

thats another $1000 on your bill... lol, so much money for a system these days, i wish it was like the old times when people all had the same factory-built system so there wouldnt be a hige fight over who has the better pc or game manufacturers partnering up with nvidia and ati forcing gamers to buy the latest card to play the latest game at even the lowest of settings (COUGH quake4)

Yeah I guess pong didn't need a fast video card

Cards just get faster and faster as companies one-up eachother to be king of performance.

pong lol, i bet if it was made modern it would need quad-sli to run on even minimum settings, companies dont realise that they will eventually destroy themselves battling out other companies and soon enough battling themselves to be king

They won't as long as people have deep pockets ;)

The top of the line G80 will proabably cost $500-600 or somewhere around there.

not as bad of a burn as i had thought

Just take the top of line cards and their current prices and add $50-100 and that should be the prices for the R600 and G80.

mousiness

theyre the next dx10 cards so i hope theyll have amaizing performance for the price

most likey paying for a $500-600 video card is never justified for the performance you get.

Hm, so both the G80 and R600 are DX10 cards? I guess that means they won't be launching around the corner then...

Interesting tidbit I came across though... ATI will soon be using GDDR4 RAM, and nVidia is playing around with XDR RAM... things should get interesting next year! :-D

The X1950 is suppose to have GDDR4. Not sure about the G80 but the R600 will be DX10 ready and PS4.0 and it is also suppose to run DX9 just as fast as DX10 is suppose to be fast. G80 is scheduled for Sept-Oct while R600 is set for Q4 of this year.

tehre will be some really stiff competition between these cards, i cant wait until i might get my hands on one hehehe

Until actual numbers show up its an open playing field.

mousiness
07-02-2006, 02:31 AM
and when the other competition takes apart the opponents card and starts to copy it lol (COUGH manufacturers against the accord)

werty316
07-02-2006, 02:35 AM
I don't think companies would do that as their are patents.

mousiness
07-02-2006, 02:36 AM
not everything are patents, and BTW its true companies actually do that and modify the ideas a little bit so the patent is not valid then

So you are saying nVidia and ATI purchase eachothers VGA cards and copy eachother. The archtecture of their cards aren't even the same like the number of pixel pipes and vertex shaders for instance.

mousiness

trust me they look at what they have as competition im certain of it, they may not copy eachother but it gives them a good idea of what their\yre up against im pretty darn sure

You can't win a 7950 Gx2, prizes are these:

1st Place: XFX 7900GT VIVO

2nd Place: XFX 7600GT

3rd Place: XFX Headset and Mic, and XFX Gamepad
Hope that clears up a bit ;-)

And with the upcomming R600 its going to be completly different, where Ati is going with unified shaders nvidida is not... I think ATI will dominate again, Loved how much their 9800's OC'ed, I got mine up to 45% higher core clock, but it got so hot, that i was afraid to Burn it..:S so stuck it at 35% with a better cooler:P Still have the card in my rig which is why i'm buying new, or hoping i win the post contest, but i'm far behind:(

I have used ATI in the past and have been pleased... but nowadays I feel Nvidia is where it's at.
