"Swooping onto about 8,200 screens at 4,065 locations, Warner Bros.' Superman Returns rocketed to an estimated $84.2 million in five days, selling about as many tickets initially as the first X-Men, which was also directed by Bryan Singer. Included in the tally was $5 million from 76 IMAX theaters, the highest-grossing IMAX opening on record, eclipsing Batman Begins' $3.1 million."
A good opening weekend for the film, hopefully it will have some lasting power, although with Pirates of the Caribbean 2 out next weekend, Superman will have his work cut out for him...

I was expecting it to make more, I mean common its Superman! But for alot of talk that is saying its more of a chick flick is damn good. I'll wait for the DVD.
Numbers aside, anyone here watched the movie?
How is it really?
Superman is really great as a memory of my childhood.
Question is, how did they Revive that memory of many of us...
This should be quite hard to remake.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was good. They played out the story why he had been gone for 5 years good. And the new guys does look alot like a young Christopher Reeves.
Spacey did a great job as Lex, much better than Hackman I think.
Kevin Spacey is an amazing actor in global and every time I see anew movie that he is in, I know it is going to be a great one...
I saw it on Sunday and I thoroughly enjoyed it. What's-his-name playes a great Clark Kent and Superman...I was really surprised. Clark is still the awkward, goofy guy he was with Reeves, and Superman is still the witty, intelligent superhero you know him as. Spacey is a great Lex Luthor. I was not let down by this movie at all.

Kevin Spacey is a fantastic actor and any film with him in it automatically peaks my interest.
That said, I haven't seen the film yet, but am approaching it with cautious optimism ;)

I have actually heard some really good things about the movie. And from what I have heard they basically pick this movie up as if the 3rd and 4th films never happened...thats good for me

Saw Superman Returns yesterday, and I agree it was pretty good! Kevin Spacey made for a great Lex Luther, and the man in blue wasn't to bad either... ;)
The movie was full of those comic book moments though, such as you know who would have been nothing but pulp after that aircraft scene...

So based on everyone who has seen it, this movie isn't a chick flick love fest?
So based on everyone who has seen it, this movie isn't a chick flick love fest?
Well, there is a good bit of romance and all that crap. They had to do it to bring in the chicks...it's a good business practice you know. :P But they didn't overdo it, thankfully!

Then, you are missing out on three of the best superhero films ever made (Spider-Man 1 & 2, Batman Begins)...
Superman Returns has to have some sort of angle to attract the female audience, he is too big an icon and DC knows that. Superman is mainstream, like it or not, and thus will be treated as such.
I did hear that is has a rather long running time though, about 2.5 hrs?! I have to wait cause my stupid little small-town theatre decided to bring in crap like Garfield 2 instead :(

I really wouldn't want to sit through a long chick flick but good thing it doesn't sound like it is throughout the whole movie.

I really liked it, but the ending dragged a bit :).

Nah, and what was in there wasn't as bad as many other films either! Yes the movie is about 2 and a half hours though... but I rather prefer longer movies so that's a plus in my book.
Only thing I'd add was the ending pretty much seemed like an afterthought. I should clarifiy, the very last scene... I don't think you'd find many of those over near New York ;)

I just finished watching Superman Returns and was quite satisfied with how the story was and the fact it wasn't a chick flict throughout; there was one part that I wouldn't have expected but I won't what it was as to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.
The emotional parts and action parts were spread out enough where I paid attention throughout the whole film. I don't know why alot of critics give this movie a bad review.
Christopher Reeds had some big shoes that needed to be filled and I thought Brandon Routh did a great job on do just that. Now lets bring on Doomsday hehe; that'lll probably never happen; I mean who is gonna kill of the greatest hero of all time?

Is Superman IMAX release, I thought they were going to launch conroe at the same time, something about a core 2 dua add???
tomato
07-10-2006, 06:13 PM
Um, what does Conroe have to do with Superman Returns? And, yes, the film was, or will be released in IMAX format, and it will be spectacular ;) :)

Apparently Intel decided to switch the NDA around yet again, so that the NDA on Conroe lifts on the 14th, which happens to be the same day Superman Returns opens at the IMAX in Europe. At least I think that's what it was... Something the Intel marketing department dreamed up... ;)

Those markting people are crazy sometimes.

General Zod in SUPERMAN sequel?
http://cinescape.com/0/editorial.asp?aff_id=0&this_cat=Movies&action=page&type_id=&cat_id=270338&obj_id=51723
""Before the film the cast all said a few words. When it was Singers turn (last) he invited his writing partners to come up. One of them walked up to the mike and brought attention to what was written on the T-shirt he was wearing "Kneel before Zod"
Let the rumour mill begin! :)

Superman sequel for 2009?
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/060724g.php
"Most interesting tidbit was that Singer says a sequel is planned for 2009 and whilst he has no deal yet in place, he hopes to direct it. He also talked a bit about the tone, saying 'Returns' essentially laid the groundwork to re-introduce and establish the characters, and the second film would be able to involve much more crowd-pleasing style action with hint of an "alien terror".
Heh, still haven't seen Superman Returns yet, but this could be promising...
