This month might look likely for upgrading at last.. Was supposed to happen back in February, but something always gets in the way of upgrading. Since AM2 has been here for some time now, I don't see much major against it and DDR will begin to be phased out and I can carry it over rather than having to try selling it.

Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Asus M2NPV-VM
Corsair 2GB DDR2-800 (TWIN2X2048-6400)
eVGA e-Geforce 7600 GT KO
Seagate 250GB HD (SATA 2)

I'm going SFF for this one and already have a case to do so. Conroe may be here soon, however waiting is key after some revisions I think.

Smart move since AMD Is suppose to do a pice drop when the Core 2 Duo (Conro) is released.

They are already up to revision 5, and the rumor is official retail models will make a quick revision 6, although I have seen none of these so far.

Well, if you wanted another opinion... I'd say your build looks pretty good, just make sure you wait to catch the price slashing for that processor and you should be good :)

I might wonder about DDR2 availability if Conroe is able to launch in significant numbers with sufficient motherboards, as DDR2-800 2x1gb seems to be the sweet spot most will aim for... but that's idle speculation on my part. ;)

I agree with Kougar and Werty: wait until near the end of this month when the prices are going to go way down. They downside to this is that DDR2 prices are going to be going up. So pick your poison.

He could pick up DDR2 Ram now, while the prices are lower to avoid a price jump ;) Looks like a solid build, Kasrkin Guard :)

Great idea: buy your RAM now, while the inventory and prices are reasonable. Wait for the prie drop in CPU's, and purchase one then. I also recommend getting a new PSU while you are at it, since a new PCI-E video card is likely to be next.

Because that's what you do.

Unfortunately my Athlon XP is down for good now... So I'll have to buy a new CPU and motherboard which will be a Sempron and nForce 3. Not worth going much more since it will turn around to be standard use soon.

Alienware isnt cheaper, quiet the opposit. And you dont get the freedom to choose the components you really want like the Mobo, if you want a high OC'ing rig.

Because its cheaper to build your own rig and Dell sucks  I prefer choosing my parts for a build.
