Castle Rock - Jason Bunch was listening to Metallica on his iPod while mowing the lawn outside his Castle Rock home Sunday afternoon when lightning hit him.
The last thing the 17-year-old remembers was that a storm was coming from the north and he had only about 15 minutes before he should go inside.
Next thing he knew, he was in his bed, bleeding from his ears and vomiting. He was barefoot and had taken off his burned T-shirt and gym shorts. He doesn't know how he got back in the house.

BS, you weren't even born when that song came out.
Damn that is crazy. Just this past weekend around my area two people were stuck by lightning during a bad lightning storm. What are the odds?

over here by a jack astors restaurant some old guy was struck by lightning in front of a huge crowd including me, very cool to watch it but horriffic, and about 6 months ago there was a runk woman that was drunk at a bar and she got run oover by a taxi driver and she got dragged 5km onto a high way then got run over 5 times after, the whole shopping centre was closed down.

Go ahead a listen to your iPod in the rain. I'm almost 100% certain it is safe. Just make sure you are holding onto something conductive.

Back on-topic, I remember seeing a guy on tv who got hit by lightning on his tongue piercing! He did survive, was a bit funny to see his shoes, they were blown out at the tops (kinda reminded me of people hit by lightning in cartoons). I don't know if you know this tv-show on discovery channel called Mythbusters, but they tested this myth once about lightning being attracted by piercings. It turned out to be incorrect, the most important factor seemed to be the distance of the lightning source (it went to the closest object). Good thing I guess if you know what weird places some people have piercings at.

If you compare that to the amount of people on earth, I think it's a pretty accurate number!

I havnt exactly been hit by lightning, but it was pretty damn close. It was dark and a storm was brewing(think thats what it is called, sounds like making beer. ANYWAY) It hadnt even started raining when a bolt of lightning struck right in front of me on the pavement, I was so lucky not getting hit. I always wondered was why didnt it hit the highest placed object??? But just in front of me, But consider myself pretty lucky, many who get hit have serious problems the rest of their lives.
About the ipod,
I would expect materials like copper and plastic to melt, like with the ipod story, but allot of metal just gets really hot and burns your skin:S

This one time a lightning struck our house. (I personally think it was attracted to our car on our parking, but as it's on rubber the lightning prolly jumped at the last moment to our house). I was busy surfing the net at that moment :) Computer made a pretty funny noise, all lights went out and the computer slowly went out. My mom actually saw kind of a "fireburst" come out of the electricity sockets. Luckily the ADS kicked in right away and nothing got damaged (except this twenty year old-ish radio) so I guess we got pretty lucky, most of the other houses who get struck by lightning go up in flames.
