View Full Version : Can a user lock a thread that he starts?

The OT hijackings every time I start a thread topic are testing my patience. Can I lock my own threads somehow?
Am I the only one who feels this way?

He has been banned for 24 hours for changing post topics. If he continues after this it will be for a week next time. 3rd time he will be banned for life.

I know mousiness can be misuderstood and I hope when he returns he doesn't feel any animosity towards anyone.
Maybe now I can take can take break.

Most times, a simple PM helps. Then if it doesn't I just remind them in-topic. When all else fails I report the bad post.
He is 13 and likely to return hating a few of us. I don't dislike Mousiness, I just dislike how he was acting. I hope he understands that.
Despite how he acts, I hope he wins a new video card for himself; but only with legit on-topic posts that are at least two sentences.
Moving on now. Switching from mad man, to posting like a madman.

to reply to your question, as far as i know you can't, i've tried it a couple of times on different boards to delete one of my threads etc, but it seems only a mod can do that

To answer you question completely, No VBulletin doesn't offer that as an option to users, only to Moderators and Administrators.
I sincerely hope mousiness learns his lesson, 13 was a tough age for me and most kids. OF course at that I age I was walking 5 miles to school up hill both ways and then working in the fields after school...sounds like the same BS I heard from my dad anyway:mrgreen:

At 13 I was married and had two children to feed, a 40 acre field to plow, and my 37 year old father to nurse. Wait, no that was my last life. Being 13 sucked major ass for me. I refer to that period as the hormone years.

Er? What exactly do you mean with get up and change the cannel? I guess you're not referring to tv or radio? Personally I think being 13 is fun, a lot of time on your hands to do all sorts of stuff ;-)

You are kidding right Gibson? Sarcasm I didn't catch again?
TV's didn't always have remote controls. When I was a kid, they were black and white and had big dials for both VHF and UHF channels. The volume, and brightness were smaller dials.

LOL, no I wasn't being sarcastic. But now I get what he meant, I interpreted it as getting out of bed in the morning to change the channel

Then I'm glad I explained it. Here in the states, we always make our childhood seem worse then everyone else's. We say things such as "I had to walk in the snow uphill to school, both ways".

That wasn't really extraordinary back in the days, I remember my father saying there used to be people who had to do 20km by foot to go to work. If I remember correct my grandfather had to do around 12 or so by foot.

That is true for us Canadians. Walking in snow can somtimes takes double the amount of effort.

Considering I started the topic, I think it is fair that I take a moment and explain what someone else has written.
Plus, the topic is closed: the answer was in the first few posts. You may bastardize this thread all you want now.

I think you are being too harsh on Mousiness, he can fix himself, as he did on my forum, no need to ban him. Hell, he is even the admin of my forum, so of corse, he is good.

/me frolics around the thread sprinkling daisies and sunflowers behind him in his wake (And before anyone complains that the images are to large, IE displays them correctly  )

Maybe a pic of fire and brimstone is more appropriate for this topic now since that is what is gonnna happen to it.

I do like those sunflowers. I will post a picture of my own once I locate it.
Testy? Well, I would like to see things run the same way the would under normal circumstances. But since the posts stack way up inside of no time at all, the thread can get way off target in a hurry.
Some of my threads I don't really mind, but some I do. If I am asking for today's weather, I probably won't care. If we are discussing an actual topic (that I started) it will bother me if the thread gets hijacked before I get the answers.

I'm not trying to be rude, but seriously there is/was no point in even attemping to play in a contest that's based solely upon post count. As I recall in previous months as well as this own, you and Mousiness would quickly escalate anything whether it was my thread or yours to two pages or more, just from the both of you using nothing but "one-liners" and going on in circles about nothing or the same topic basically repeating what was originally said. I'm really not trying to be rude here, but if you don't believe me the forum is full of the evidence. ;)
In order to win against that, the same amount of time I'd have to invest to try and top that would be better spent towards another job, then buying the graphics card myself! Whenever you put $300 up in free prizes up for grabs you should expect people to get offended quickly, or be "testy" as it was mentioned... ;) That's just my two pesos on the matter, and I apologize if I offended anyone.

You are absolutely correct Kougar. I gave up on trying for first place, for two reasons: 1) competing with Werty at posting is a lost cause 2) I don't need another 7900GT. I have been considering the idea of not playing at all, but I do enjoy replying to most posts. So far, this has occupied a little bit more then my spare time, so I should start deciding very soon.

I was just trying to point out that the posts in a thread about "posts going off topic" apear to have gone off topic. Simply pointing out the humor in it. Sorry if you think I was stepping on your toes. No need to get defensive.

You guys are intitled to your opinions but in my defence I was post whoring because mousiness was doing so and was just trying to keep up as I don't want him to win for his posting since most of them took threads off topic and I think my posts brought more thought as mousiness's replies were just rambles.

I was tired of the what the contest was doing to the members, so now mousiness can have a comfortable 2nd place (although it is still very early).
I post for the posts' sake now, not for the contest. If I happen to win something, which would suprise me very much, then I will donate to whoever needs it most.
