You didn't say what you have now for a video card. I recommend waiting if you can, and if your current GPU will suit your needs for the next six months.

Well, you could by a cheap GPU and wait, and that might be the best option in my opinion... The first generation of DX10 cards may have a few issues or not fully support everything, but then again they may be just fine. Always is a risk taken with buying the first product based on completely new designs...

A x1900XTX isn't exactly a low-end cheap GPU.... but you have a point. The x1900XTX and 7900GTX and 7950GX2 cards will never be able to run DX10 under Vista, so once Vista is finally released quite a few graphics cards are going to become obsolete overnight. It should drop prices noticeably too, snce most people will want only DX10 cards, naturally... ;)

If you wait, you will get a DX10 compatible card, but it could have issues like Kougar said... then you would have to wait even longer until they work all of the bugs out :(

That said, a cheap card might be a good idea right now to tide you over if you cannot wait... but the most important question right now is what card you are running in your current rig?

If you plan on buy a new rig or upgrading I would wait and see waht DX10 brings but keep in mind you might a big longer for DX10 games but Crysis should come along soon.

As others have said there are no video cards currently available that can run DX10.

Another point to add is that it will take time for Dx10 to be fully utilised, so a Dx9 card now will do you fine for quite some time until Dx10 comes of use.

I have a 9800 pro now, and a friend is bringing components from the US this early next month, so i really cant wait a year, so will go with the X1900XTX i think, espcially since i plan on using a 22" screen with 1600x1020 res.

Save the $ and get a X1900XT and just OC it to X1900XTX speeds ;)

Read that since the XT chips are scrap from the XTX they have a hard time OC that well ?

The price difference between the XT and XTX model can be anywhere but as high as $100 and thats for only a core 25MHz faster and 75Mhz on the memory. Worth it? Nope.

That's a good point, although wasn't Unreal Tournament 2007 supposed to have support for this? The Crysis engine is expected to debut on Vista using DirectX 10 though as well.

Yeah I thought UT2007 was DX10 but since its out Q42006 I guess it isn't; also Crysis is suppose to be released Q4 2006 and and lets hope Vista is released on time.

UT07 was for having features come along for Dx10. Crysis currently has no Dx10 tech to work with last I heard, so it's all Dx9 with SM4 being the main feature to have with Dx10, so they will release it before Vista is ready if they choose.

Yep, the core and mem clocks are definently not worth it, and as far as i can see the sapphire x1900xt runs 625mhz core. but will oc anyway.. the topic is drifting off topic, but the info is good so keep it up:P

Ah, you are right. EA will release the US version in Q42006, and release the UK verison in January which is what I'd saw previously. Crysis is being dubbed as the first game to use DX10 though even so, and Halo 2 is reported to only run on DX10, which isn't surprising as it's from MS.

Only thing really hold back these games is M$ and if they will release Vista on time or delay it even more.

Yeah, and all the problems that come with DX10, we can always hope for a easy transistion but there has been problems in the past, and i'm sure there are going to be some espcially with dx10 as it is a complete remake.
