How about making a CS source contest, where people can join teams and you can give out prices that way... Hothardware did it, it was the most fun i ever had. That way your winnings dont depend on how much spare time you have(posting contest)... :???: And you really get to know the people in the contest..

Just an Idea that worked really well, there was one really nice rule to, no forum noobs could join just to enter the contest, they had to post a bit..

I don't now that we have enough people to start a game. CS:S is not a game I own, and I don't know if others have it either. Besides, Scott has already mentioned using the Folding @ Home project for the next contest.

That would be asking the members to purchase another game that they might not neccessarily own... (there was a BF2 contest last month) In theory, it could be fun, as it looked like many people turned out for the BF2 contest.

Enough people could show up, but the prizes would probably determine the amount of participation for those who don't won a copy of the game.

Oh sure, say that about a game I actually happen to own... :P

If you own HL2.1 then you automatically have Half Life Deathmatch, but I'll admit that was a rather annoying port of CS Half Life style rolled into a pure fragfest. Some of the CTF mods were fun though for this...

The basic old Counterstrike is now free though, is it not? I believe it is a free game included with Steam now. That would solve the game issues, and if you have any kind of PC you could play with decent FPS on it.

Das Capitolin is right that Folding@home will be the next contest, but throwing some ideas together for future contests (if held) can't hurt :)

CS:S would be fun but since BF2 is already in play Scott would have to say whether wnother game would be suitable. Also it matters as to how many people purchased it.

Well i would think most people have CS:S as it is one of the most played, But check out the Contest forum over at www.hothardware.com It was really an awesome tournament even though we ended up with only about 10 players.

It could be one of the most played but than again I rarely play online games anymore and the cost of the game. No sense of buying an online game I will never really play.

To be honest not that many people play cs:s, most play the old counterstrike.
As a reply to Kougar, no, counterstrike is not a free game, you need to have a half-life serial which you can buy for 5$ or so. Personally I'd find cs a better choice, a lot more people own it and those who do not and want to participate will be more eager to put down 5$ than 50$ for HL2

Yeah, but we are pretty many people are we not, it might be a way of makeing sure not so many join, plus the better graphics i is much nicer to look at, and even my 9800pro can run it.. :)

Even my 9600XT OCed to the moon (Okay, maybe just the top of my computer case) can run CounterStrike very well.

I don't think there is a single game that exists that more people have or had more than Half Life. So a regulated, private Counterstrike server sounds great...

Thank you kougar, at least someone agrees with me... Has anyone even checked the Hothardware forum?

http://www.hothardware.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=82&threadid=33839&enterthread=y

there is 200 something posts but sometime after the middle, you can see how people praise the tournament, it was suppose to be 1 hour but ended up being 3 hours

Sad to say but don't forget Bjorn3d isn't as bit as hothardware just look at the number of members in here compared to hothardware. In any case if some request this game whats to stop a person from request this game and by the end of the discussion there will be a huge list of games people would want as a contest.

Yeah many people can request a game, and it did orginally start with being BF2 we were suppose to play at hothardware, but everyone had counter-strike and were happy with it, and there were problems with the BF2 server, so ended up as CS:S , And i dont say that it has to be CS:S , i would prefer CS:S but as long as its a gameing competition i'm happy... Just seems like the obvious choice, nearly everyone has it.

You also learn more about each other, and its really fun, suppose to something else.

Sounds like Kougar is for the idea. I don't have the game, and don't want it either. It is well known that CS:S has more cheats and hacks then any other game in history.

That is not true, try finding cheats for CS:S and then use em on a VAC server( VAC= secured server)... There are no cheats that work on VAC servers and when a new cheat comes along(and they seldom do) Valve will patch it quickly.

It is well known that CS:S doesnt have more cheats and hacks then any other game in history.

CS 1.6 is actually worse when it comes to cheats..

In any case its like I said before, its hard to get and online game at Bjorn3d due to the size of the forum community. First and formost you can't have a online game competition if there aren't enough players and so far it seems CS:S has less players than BF2.

Okay, to outright say so, I was keen on the idea of a basic CS server, simply because half the world has it or can get it for next to nothing via Steam. Yes, CS is rife with more cheats and hacks to the point I don't play it, but hosting a private admin'd server would be enough. If anyone from here tried to exploit the known bugs or cheats it'd quickly become blatently obvious after watching them.

CS 1.6 on a VAC server with extra anti-cheat stuff is still so full of holes and exploits, that comparing it to swiss cheese would only give swiss cheese a bad name. I am sure CS:S has it's own issues, although since I don't play it I can't speak from experience. But considering how useless VAC is on CS, I don't hold out any hope for CS:S. This just leads me back to my idea of a passworded server with a few admins that can take care of issues. But I suppose this is a little to much trouble when BF2 would be easier to deal with for such events, admittedly.

Ok, so we agree on this so far:

There are many cheats for CS:S.
It won't cost much to play the game.
Hosting a server will require admin(s).
There are two people interested in playing... so far.

Well if the reason you think people are cheating is because you get killed all the time then its probably just because you cant play proberly. :D

There are very few cheaters and VAC works loads better on CS:S, dont make assumptions just because 1.6 sucks... There is a reason i changed to CS:S even though i once owned in CS 1.6

So i say give it a chance

Gee, it sure is a good thing I play in five different gaming leagues, since I suck so bad and all. Go do a search for cheats with CS:S and you'll get almost as many hits as if you looked for porn on the Internet.

Well ive never seen a cheater on a VAC server... But if everyone things CS:S is a bad idea then fine by me.. It was just a suggestion, and something that worked really well on the other forum,, Sry

Sorry Das Capitolin, but it seems like you don't know/ didn't see we are talking about two different games here, counterstrike and counterstrike:source
I for one am pro counterstrike, but against CS:S
the regular (1.6) CS has A LOT more players, it's cheap as hell if you don't already have it, and a private server would work just well to keep cheaters out.
BTW In CS:S you can give headshots by shooting a guy in the foot. Try it, i've seen my cousin do it!

No but the game can be borrowed from a friend, thats what i did. And if the forum is as large as you say it is, then it shouldnt be a problem getting players.

HEHE, here is what you do:grin:

first.. Copy his entire VALVE folder to your computer
2. In that folder theres is a file called clientregistry.blob find it somewhere...
3. Delete it
4. Open the steam.exe file
5. Get him to write the account and password, and click remember password.
(steam will now say updating)

6. play the game:P

or you could just use his computer at his house8-)
