"The following week will see one of the most anticipated Xbox Live Arcade releases yet. Both Microsoft and Capcom have confirmed Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting will finally hit Marketplace on August 2. Capcom had originally indicated that the game would arrive in "early 2006." It is the first title from the publisher for Xbox Live Arcade, and is a reworking of the early '90s arcade classic Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting. If Hyper Fighting isn't old-school enough, August 9 will reportedly see one of the elder statesmen of the game world, Pac-Man, begin gobbling up ghosts on Marketplace."

Cool... although I do wonder why some of the games cost more then others... licensing perhaps? Popularity?

I think they just made the graphics acceptable to today's norms. That's why it's pretty low cost.
Today's games are so expensive because of the amount of manhours that go into them. That is why we see a trend of games getting more expensive as with all the eyecandy supported today it takes a lot more programming to make it look that good. (plus ofcourse things like ragdolphysics, wheather, grass moving with the wind 'n all...)

It's just another one of those classics they are pushing to sell... just takes a simple port over to the new console and they're set to make a profit.

On a releated note:

A classic release game every Wednesday

Microsoft announced today that due to the popularity of its downloading service for the XBOX 360, it will release one game from the 1980's era every Wednesday for the next five weeks. Available for subscribers through XBOX Live Arcade, the games will be updated versions of classic arcade games such as Pac-Man and Frogger. The going price will range from $5 to $15 per game.

I agree with Kougar 100%. In fact, it should be common practice for a company to research the demand for past arcade games, and port them over with each new console. There were some old video games that were wildly crazy back when I was a kid... one of which was a football game played by robots. Never made it to console (that I know of) and it was a ton of fun. Would be even better on consoles, since you could build a team.

Yeah, I hear you about researching popular older games... and then compiling them into some sort of "hits" package... I got suckered into some old school goodness with a Namco Collection, as well as the Street Fighter 2 Collection ;) :) Which are great, btw... Sure, most of the games could be run on my PC via emulators, but it's waaay more fun/convenient with the living room home theatre ;)
