Heyy
I have a HP pc which contans a MSI mobo (MS-7093), and HP has flashed it with their "user-friendly" bios... which means that they removed fan control and all the Oc stuff:\...
HP's support told me that I could flash MSI's original Bios to restore all those functions, but it doesn't work... I have a few screenshots of it
"The program file's BIOS-Lock String does not match with your system!" ??
I used the Bios HP told me to use, and I tried the one from MSI's website... But neither of them work... MSI's support haven't answered me yet(wrote a month ago)...
Anyone that has any idea why I can't get the original Bios?
Thanks...

A CD that came with your HP might have the original BIOS on it but I would be 100% sure on this.
I am guessing this is the board you are talking about?

Which version did you download from MSI website? http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp
Here are the BIOS versions I found on MSI website.
v3.8 (http://216.158.218.35/edoc/bios_uploads/7093v38.rar)
v3.5 (http://216.158.218.35/edoc/bios_uploads/7093v35.rar)
v3.4 (http://216.158.218.35/edoc/bios_uploads/7093v34.zip)
v3.2 (http://216.158.218.35/edoc/bios_uploads/7093v32.zip)
v3.0 (http://216.158.218.35/edoc/bios_uploads/7093V300.zip)

Well, a quick google did find this, although it's for DFI: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/mb_faq_us1.jsp?FAQ_ID=3246&PAGE_TYPE=US&SITE=US (http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/mb_faq_us1.jsp?FAQ_ID=3246&PAGE_TYPE=US&SITE=US)
If you tried that and anything is off at all you'd probably end up with a dead board, so I don't really recommend it.
What tool are you using to try and do the flash?

I'd be puzzled if Dell didn't lock the board to prevent flashing it to an msi bios.

There's a command switch in the command line that forces the bios to over ride the errors that you're getting. The problem is that if for some reason there's a lock or something of that nature in the CMOS or special idenifier of some sort, you could trash the bios. I've forced bios flashes on video cards before, but I've never tried it with a MoBo.

I wouldn't risk it if you don't know what to do as if you screw the BIOS flash your are pretty much screwed.

You can actually buy another bios, I won't say it isn't a lot of hasle, but it isn't completely lost.

Yeah I guess but in most cases you would have to send the board away if you needed the BIOS replaced.

Thaaanks to all your answers...
#2: Yes my mobo is the rs480 as you said, and I have used Bios version 3.8... and there are no Bios on the following cd...
#3: Great, i'll try that
#4: Thanks, but I have seen that...
#5: I don't think they locked, since HP's support told me that it was possible...

They might be right, but they might be wrong too. Sometimes support people even contradict eachother. I've read about it in a review about dell before. This one guy from support said this or that, and the other claimed the opposite.

Tewch support probably wouldn't give you a definite answer since I don't think their knowledge goes as far as if a board BIOS is locked form updating.

I have an a1018.dk... Well it's nearly the same... I have a RS480 chipset ...
But yes you can OC your cpu with some software... Which is what i use until i know how to get the normal MSI bios again... The progs are:
- Clockgen, to adjust FSB ... http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php
- Speedfan, to control the speed of my fans:p... http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
- RMClock, to adjust the voltage for my cpu... http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml
and no those links are for my pc... you can find yours at www.msi.com.tw...

what do the voltages do? i use clockgen, but when i oc and go into my computer properties it still says the clock regular speed. speedfan is good, but when i close it all my fans go to 100%, 5000rpm, and i dont no what voltages do

Speedfan is controlling the speed of your fans and if you close Speedfan the fans are no longer being controlled.
Which voltages are you talking about? 12V, 3.3V, and 5V?
The clock speed in My Computer properties shows the speed your CPU when Windows booted up. My Computer properties will only show your CPU's overclocked speed if you boot into Windows with your CPU overclocked. Don't worry about it. Download CPU-Z for your CPUs speed.

ya i have that. i took my athlon 3500+ to 2.5 but it wasnt too stable. 2.41 was good speed. uhm for speedfan, i thnk somtin is just messedup. when i close the program the fans go to full speed. dont no whats rong, anyway about the voltages, i dont no what they are and what they do

Leave Speedfan open to control your fans. Which voltages are you talking about?

lol all of them. 12v rail's are for gfx cards right?

I really don't remember but I think the 12V runs fans, GPUs and HDs. 5V runs CPU and 3.3V runs PCI and memory. Again I am not really sure and you don't relaly need to worry about it.

The 24 pin ATX uses 3.3, 5, and 12v. 8 pin CPU power is 12v.
However, according to the 680i LT mobo manual the molex is 5v.
