My son needs a calculator for school this year. I only use HP's and Jobber's at work and know little about TI's,but the supply list for his school says he will be using a Texas Instrument and calls for a TI 83Plus. If I get him a TI84Plus would that work the same way? I'm sure they want them all to have the same kind for ease of teaching, but they look the same except for memory.
Just wondering!

They are the same calculator, minus for some hardware updates and logic functions. The key layout is identical, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I use the Ti-83 plus, and its almost the exact same as the ti-84 plus...
But the 84 has more memory and has a direct usb cable, the cable is handy but not vital, but the memory is a life saver if you like to store allot.
If you save a lot of money go with the 83 but if not go with the 84. My school just changed it so you have to have a ti-84 if you just started... So it might be worth it, there is also a problem with having different versions then other students, you cant transfer files to each other, and im probably the only one with a 83 in my class....
Hope i could help

I personally use a TI 84-plus for school. Must say they're pretty good. There is a silver edition out there too that boosts more memory but that's about it. At our school only teachers are allowed to have a silver edition. I wouldn't recommend getting him an other one then the school suggests though. He might be the odd one out now and then if there eventually is a difference.
