Good stuff Scott as the fan on the 7900GT is just as bad as the imfamous 5800Ultra.

I am unaware of the fan problem you are describing. Is it because the fan funs at 100% at full time? If this is the case, I will leave it. As "soon" as I receive the 7900GT I am putting an nVidia Silencer on it, and I will want that fan to run at 100%.

Yes mainly its because the fan runs at 100% 24/7. Also beware that NV Silencer 5 Rev3 (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=40) series cooler is not compatible with the 7900GT video cards. The Accelero X1 (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=91) might fit and it might not fit.

That's not true. There are many reviews that state that people had no problem mounting the NV Silvencer 5 rev 3 onto the XFX 7900GT.

Of course, I will show you this is the case with a write up once I receive the card.

Are these XFX 7900GT specific reviews or NV5 Rev3 specific reviews?

How else do I say this? "There are many reviews that state that people had no problem mounting the NV Silvencer 5 rev 3 onto the XFX 7900GT."

I would say that this is pretty specific.

I don't you quite understand what I meant. I did some reading and in most situations teh NV5 Rev3 needs to be modded a bit to make it fit on 7900GTs "you have to trim some of the clear plastic shroud at the end of the cooler (cooler longer than card)." One user from eVGA forums reported that the NV Silencer 6 Rev2 fits without any modding but the NV6 Rev2 does not cool the memory.

I have seen a write up (now I will have to try and find it) that said that the positioning of the GPU is a little closer to the slot rail then other 7900GT's, so it means that you either must:

1) cut the extra 1/2 inch off the end of the exhaust channel before it exits the case, or
2) open the slot on the case by 1/16" so that the extra 1/2" can pass outside the case.

Neither of these things make the NV Silencer not work with the XFX 7900GT; and either can be done in under five minutes.

Also, the NV Silencer 6 will fit, but its heatsink is smaller and no RAM cooling.

Found a pic and it seems the NV5 Rev3 is too long but a Dremel can fix that.

So it appears this might not be a valid statement. I think that 30-seconds with a saw is more then enough to qualify it for compatible. Also- I have already purchased the Silencer... so it would have worked, regardless. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Technically it won't fit with modding and its like I have had hands-on experience with a NV5 Rev3 and a 7900GT

I already got the bios the other day from XFX just to give it a try...............;) For some reason, it doesn't make any differance in the fan speed on my water block....................:) But everything else works just fine. super easy bios flash in Windows.

Would it be possible to host the PV-T71G-UDE version of the new BIOS? My card has PV-T71G-UDE7 on the box, so this is the one I'm assuming I'll need. I filled out a ticket request for the new BIOS on Wednesday but haven't got anything back yet. Hopefully somebody else has already got it.

Will this void warranty? Cause I'm about to have a new GT cross-shipped to me and they'll charge me $280 if the card they receive back is damaged, or the warranty has been voided in some other way.

Also, where'd all the other posts go? :)

I think you should be fine or these bios files wouldn't be posted.

BIOS files came from XFX.

Hey Scott, if not said before, these bios updates are for the VIVO versions of the 7900gt, hence the C and not D in the second to last letter of the version identification.

PV-T71G-UCP
PV-T71G-UCL
PV-T71G-UCF
PV-T71G-UCE

If your model has any of these model numbers I think you can use it. My model is "PV-T71G-UCL7" so I would download "PV-T71G-UCL". Yes these BIOS files are for VIVO cards only hence "PV-T71G-UCL" or "C". "D" is none VIVO version of the 7900GT based on XFX website.

Scott

I will check with XFX, but since the VIVO is just them adding a the proper chip to the card for VIVO it should be fine using them.

Is it true that if you just match the clockspeeds up on your card, even if the BIOS zip file doesn't reflect your model number, it will work? Like the UCE will work on the UDE?

Also, what BIOS version is this, and is there a changelog? I am receiving a new card from XFX tomorrow (UDE), and it may or may not have the latest BIOS. From reading everything in the zip file, there's no BIOS revision number in it.

Thanks.

XFX told me yes it will work just like that.

If your fan is not running at high speed then you will not need the BIOS.

Hey All,
Scott is right and please make sure to follow the read file carefully when flashing your card. The release of the BIOS is for the community to have the option for a variable fan speed and is intended for the original architecture of the cards. As for all of you talking about third party coolers. This BIOS is only for the stock cooler and will not change the attributes of any third party solution. We ask that you please do not change the stock cooling solution as this will void your warranty. We do not support any electrical or physical changes made to the card unless specifically instructed by an Xfx technician.
