View Full Version : My idea for August Contest
Scott Sherman

1. Must post at least 50 post.
2. Must join Bjorn3D Folding Team and be actively doing WU's
We will then do drawings out of the hat for how many prizes we have. The drawings will take place over a 24 hour period at the end of the month. We will print out all particepents names and put them in a jar. 1st drawing will be 1st place, 2nd drawing will be second place and so on depending on the amount of prizes I have.
Does everyone like that idea?

Sounds pretty good to me, this way people with only one system folding will have a chance against the folks with folding farms.................;)

With the post count lowered and the only other requirement being F@H I think there's going to be a lot more people eligible for next months prize which should make it pretty exciting.
With some of the contests it's been decided way before the end of the month because someone is able to blow out the others with their contributions. I think this next months contest will be pretty darn good. Heck, even I may have a shot!

scott, maybe we could have like minimum like 30 posts a week and then do like weekly entries (so that people who are more active will get extra chance)

Sounds good at 50 posts so more new users who join don't have to try so hard for posts and can concentrate moreon Folding.

Please consider this idea as well:
-For every 100 posts, you receive one entry into the random drawing, starting at 100.
-For every 10 WU you receive one entry into the random drawing, starting at 10.
-Previous winners are not eligiable to win the same prize twice.
Anyone can set up F@H for just a few days and post for that same amount of time just to get in, based on the rules you suggested. It doesn't take that much to fold, and you are giving them the free ticket to set it up and then close up shop after one WU.
In the end, it is your contest to control.
EDIT: I also think we should change this months contest. For every 100 posts the competitor receives one entry in a random drawing. That would make it fair for everyone who doesn't eat and sleep while posting.

Well, I think so too. But Werty raised a fuss because he didn't like the idea of me winning a contest because I am folding more then everyone else.

The argument between you and Werty ends here and now. I've seen you two snipe at eachother and this is starting to get on my nerves. Please just move on.
We won't change the rules for this months contest this late in the month.
As for your other suggestion - I kind of like it and will discuss this a bit with Scott. I think we can find a middle-way that both rewards those who post/fold a lot but also still makes it possible for those who don't have a server-farm or those who have a life outside the forums to win.

That sounds great, Scott! It's fair and gives everyone a chance to win something. It's not very hard and/or time consuming either, therefore potentially attracting more participants ;)

I think that Scott's offer is fair enough, though I would add Das Capitolin's rule saying that:
" -Previous winners are not eligiable to win the same prize twice."
But again, anything finally decided is fine with me ...let's just wait and see what the rules/prizes for August contest will be...:???:
Anyway, I'm already folding with 5 WU's already...

" -Previous winners are not eligiable to win the same prize twice."
The only potential downfall of applying that rule is that, over time, a user could be automatically disqualified from participating in a contest if they have previously won all of the listed prizes... It's far fetched I know, but the potential is there... and in doing that could reduce the amount of user participants.
I'm not really a fan of excluding anyone from a contest, but if was to be some sort of rule, I personally preferred the "Previous month's winner is ineligible for next month's contest".

i think the rule should be refined and you cannot win same prize over a period of like 3 monthes or so

I like the "Previous winners cannot win two months in a row" rule that was used before the BF2 contest started..

So a good hybrid of the two idea's is this: A previous winner cannot win the same prize for a period of 3 months.
I personally like the idea of not letting previous winners EVER win the same prize twice. Chanced are good that all they will do is sell it anyway.

Thats what I was thinking too... I wouldn't enter to win a video card if I couldn't use it. I like the previous rule because it opens up a new playing field so you don't see the same winners in consecutive months.

Yeah, if such a rule has to be in effect, the "revious month's winner is not eligilbe to win in this month's contest". It's simple, it worked, and no one complained about it.

hehehe:). Well, I can see points for either sides. One one side SLI sure is luring, but on the other side, some people might not have all the time and still would love to win something nice. We need to have more people joining the contest, the more poepel we have, more stuff we can get and every one can be happy. Stay around, I am sure everyone will win something nice and you know the prize will just keep getting better, so if you didn't win this time, next time will be better stuff. (man, only if I don't work for the site:)).

Well, it would have saved you a whole lot of time for the eVGA scavenger hunt. Plus, you could be one of the soon to be many at beating Scotts score.

Rule #1 might encourage people just to reach 50, regardless of what they post. Even if you omit one liners as a qualification for posting, it would be like having to write 500 word essays in high school: pointless incoherent thoughts, one after the other. Also, some people have no problem leaving their computers folding 24/7 but may not have time to post 50 times.
Rule #2 might get more members for your folding team, but what's the point of having members if they aren't folding, or only fold during contests? And what if you have willing folders who have commitment issues?

for every 10 WU add another slip of paper? dont think so. I think it should be kept to posts and active folding. Since that makes it fair for everyone. Since, not everyone has high-end 8, 9 , 200 and HD series to fold with.
