Nice!! You should be seeing some very nice improvements with your game's framerates, not to mention the better user experience with windows!
I guess I better hurry and send you that new build of Vista so you'll be able to put that CPU through it's paces... ;)

Congrats !!
this will build an awosome rig.
BTW why didn't you go with the AM2 socket?

Buying AM2 would mean a new board, CPU, and memory. This way sbrehm only needs a CPU. Going from S939 to AM2 isn't a smart move since performance is nothing stellar. Its better to wait for AMD's next chip.

I ordered it with 2nd day shipping, so IF all goes well, I hope to have it by Wednesday..............
Even thought S939 is prety much dead very nice adn AM2 is more future proof. I have decided not to get anything but wait for AMD's next chip.
I was thinking of holding out, but I've got 3 S939 boards/systems with single core CPU's here at home, so I figured I'd give a X2 a shot...............;)
And there's still a chance I'll be getting a Conroe review setup shortly, but I'm not holding my breath...........

i mentiond AM2 because of the price drop it had - and also you sell your old MB & mem

I'm not planning on messing with AM2 right now at all, the total cost of the upgrade is out of my reach even if I were to sell my old stuff. It's kind of hard doing full system upgrades on a disability pension.............:(

Nice CPU, sbrehm! You should be seeing some performance increases with that beast for sure ;) I agree, 939 isn't dead yet! There's still some life left in it, and with the uncertainty with Vista and DX10, I think you made a very good puchase.

I agree, socket939 can still offer the performance of a AM2 system. And AM2 won't exactly be around for very long itself anyway, so there really isn't much of a point if all you need is a 939 CPU... :)
I hope you get that Conroe rig to review and play with, Sbrehm! If you think that X2 is leaps and bounds above your previous CPU... ;)

I hope this CPU works ok when I get it installed............ It looks like Fed Ex played football with the package, we'll see shortly how things work out.......:(

Don't know what they do to damage stuff so much and the thing was package pretty good in the shipping box as well. CPU looks ok so far though, at least all the pins are straight and such.

Did it come in a retail box? I bet its crushed something fierce based on that pic.
Bio-Hazard

The retail box was fine, not a dent on it. I think that they dropped the package so hard that it caused the heatsink to shift and cause the danage to the insides.
Got another question, I got a free copy of Age of Empires III with the CPU, I've never played it before, is it any good, or worth my time loading?

Oh, and here's the stepping I ended up getting, I haven't checked out how good it's supposed to be yet though.

Gamespot gave it a 8.2 so its a decent RTS game.

Some users with a 3800+ X2 with the same "LDBFE" stepping got to 2.7-2.8GHz at 1.4V.

Oh man, that box looks pretty banged up :( I do hope that your CPU functions properly, sbrehm. Hopefully the styroform packaging absorbed most/all of the impact ;)

I'm likin the X2 alot so far, but it does run somewhat warmer when OC'd than what I'm used to seeing with my old A64 3000...............:) At 2.75 GHz I almost hit 40C on a warm day now.
Assassin

Well It is 2 CPU dies mashed together so the temps would be hotter. 2.75ghz dual core must be nice eh
oh man im ordering one of these so i HOPE i get the same stepping as you cuz then it would oc just as well as my 3500+!! but it would be like having TWO
i cant wait!!!

It's a pretty nice CPU so far, still haven't gotten around to seeing just how high it will clock, one of these days I will though.

Don't tell me that you have no improvement whatsoever, and think about the future: 65 nm over 90 is quite something :)
