View Full Version : Death of my X800GT

My video card died on me last night. Technically it is not dead, its more like those people who should be dead but the family keeps them on life support.
I turned on my system and I noticed that some of the letters in the POST screen were missing. Sections of some letters, and short rows of other letters are all gone. When it came to Windows, it was as if random small blocks all over the screen were black. A better analogy is to describe my screen as graph paper, and of the thousand boxes, about one hundred of them were totally black.
I pulled the plug after an hour of diagnostics today. Sapphire ATI Radeon X800GT was nine months old, and in the prime of her life when VGA cancer struck her down. ATI Radeon X800GT was a mid-level performer which carried Das Capitolin to the top in the TWL BF2 2v2 Armor League where his team in 7-0 and challenging for 1st place on Tuesday night. ATI Radeon X800GT will be missed, and may mark the end of two great eras.
In the mean time, ATI Rage II 3D PCI is managing all former basic duties, but cannot accomodate any BF2 duties.
Sapphire ATI Radeon X800GT is survived by XFX GeForce 7900GT VIVO, who has not been delivered yet but is badly needed. :(

Having hardware that breaks on you sucks; especially if your have nothing to replace it but good thing for PCI cards.

Dear Sir,
That is a strange turn of events to hear about your sudden loss, after only 9 months of age? She passed on long before her time, in what should have been the prime of her life. If it is not to personal I would like to ask, was she using any drugs such as Speed or was she OCing at the time of her collapse? Or does she have a past record of OCing abuse?
If she was not, then her life insurance policy should still be valid. Her life insurance coverage will pay for and arrange all of her funeral arrangements for you until the next of kin can arrive and take her place. Again we are sorry to hear of your loss, and please let us know if there is anything more we can do for you in this great time of sorrow.
Regretfully yours,
Dr. Kougar

Dear Sir,
We at the estate for Sapphire ATI Radeon X800GT thank you for your personal inquiry towards her lifestyle and well being. Unfortunatly, Sapphire ATI Radeon X800GT was always a bit on the wild side and couldn't stand to be average. She constantly OC'ed and was running well over her normal limits. At death, she was 540/1225. Since she had permanently flashed herself into this new image, the doctors could not treat the damage.

I am really praying on this one today. If I don't get it by Tuesday 6PM my undefeated Armor team in BF2 will have its first loss due to forfeit.

This is starting to suck. No XFX package today, and if it is not here tomorrow I am screwed. I don't have a tracking number, so I am really just crossing my fingers. Looks like I wont be setting a league record with an 8-0 record at this point.

Wow, bummer.... I hate when stuff dies, especially when I know had had something to do with its early demise.
Good thing you won a new card though so you're not out any money. If you hadn't won a card I bet you would already have bought a new one and you'd be able to play in the tournament tomorrow so maybe it's not such a good thing.... :-/

If only the card I had won was already here! I ordered a replacement card last night and shipped it next day, so we will see if I get either card by tomorrow afternoon. If I get the XFX 7900GT then I can refuse shipping and pay a restocking fee. If I don't, well lets hope it gets here in time; but so far I don't have a tracking number for either.

I guess mail can be slow at time as it took three weeks for my card to reach my hands.

LOL! I am going to call my brother (who drives past it each morning) to give it a furrowed brow as well.
