Nintendo products are usually high quality, but when something goes wrong they are VERY good at correcting it. Superb customer service. Also thats got to be some record for the least amount of defective systems at launch.
[qute]Nintendo will replaced cracked DS Lites
Nintendo has acknowledged a flaw in the DS Lite that could leave some with a cracked case. Some DS Lite handhelds are showing cracks in the left hand side of the case near the hinge, just above the power connector. Nintendo claims the flaw is rare only affecting 0.02% of the total number of DS Lite handhelds shipped.
"This cosmetic issue in no way impacts the game play or integrity of the DS Lite," claimed a press release issued on the subject by Nintendo today. Nintendo has stated that anyone who is having issues with their DS Lite system can contact the company and Nintendo will send them a replacement unit. The DS Lite comes with a one year warranty for manufacturing defects. It appears that at the time of publication Nintendo has either retracted the statement or the website is experiencing some technical difficulties, as the press release is no longer available.
We contacted Nintendo of America service representatives, who were very clear to tell us the defect "does not affect the system" and is only cosmetic. Customers who have experienced this defect can call 1-800-255-3700 to contact a service representative. The representative we talked to claimed that if the DS Lite serial number is less than a year old and still under warranty, the company would repair the unit at no cost. Those not under warranty will still have to pony up the repair fees, but the Nintendo service representative would not give us an exact fee for this service.
Earlier this year Nintendo responded in a similar manner when some users had received units that had dead LCD pixels, Nintendo replaced those DS Lites for free.[/quote]
